    POWERLEVEL - Nick Low

    Hi guys,

My name's Nick Low and I am from Melbourne, Australia and am a student undertaking the Bachelor of Industrial Design at RMIT.
With a couple of years more until I graduate, I wanted to use this opportunity to share my journey as I progress along the coming years.

I sincerely hope by regular practice, I can achieve my dreams and goals and hopefully land a career in the Entertainment Design industry like many of you folks here at CA.

I thank you for your time and I hope you will follow me on my journey over the years to come!

Feel free to post any critiques and feedback as they are highly encourage to aid my learning! Cheers!

I wanna start my stuff in grayscale as I am not feeling confident enough to work in colour at this moment.
I want to focus on getting values and linework down pat first

Really nice work. I especially like the thumbnails and that eye study! There's one thing that bugs me though about the guy fighting the dragpn (?). The bit of rock floating above him draws focus away from him because it has such strong contrast against the red backdrop - contrast always draws the eye and I'm guessing we should focus on the guy and the dragon, not the rock? I'd desaturate(tint it but not take it away, it gives a really nice sense of compression to the figure.

I personally liked it in black & white but it's great nonetheless. I definitely think this painterly style is more attractive but it's just my humble opinion.

Agreed The black and white in the painterly style was really fun to do. Much prefer it than aiming for photorealism. I was inspired by the artist Jeremy Mann and his gorgeous oil on canvas pieces. I hope to experiment more with different approaches to see what suits me best.

    Thanks for viewing my sketchbook!

Started this one straight into colour. Defs tricky but was good since I learnt lots about how colour and values interact with one another.
