High School Portfolio

Hey everyone, I'm a high school senior at Laguardia Arts in NYC and was wondering if I could get some feedback from my portfolio so far. I will be applying to a couple schools in NYC (which includes majorly SVA and Pratt) for Illustration and was wondering how could I improve my portfolio to the point where it's 'scholarship worthy'. I have received a few reviews already and many were positive and said I could be accepted, but my main focus now is to get a scholarship. Im posting my art here hoping any of you could help give me advice on how to balance my portfolio with my best pieces and also for it not to be dominated by my illustrations from imagination.
Soo here they are~ (I also have a few paintings and sculptures that I may include but I have not yet taken pictures of them, maybe i can post them later on if you'd like.)



The teacher at my figure drawing class suggested we morph the models into animals, so I definitely had fun with that!

These are the images from my pre-college fashion course at Parson's


This was done for a children's illustration class project. The assignment was to create our own hybrid creature and I made a hybrid with a Baboon Bear and Iguana. These show the differences of Male and Female.

These are all done with a pentel brush pen and some were colored with Letraset markers and photoshop.

I have one huge concern! The pictures with multiple images; should I separate them and submit them on their own or keep as big clumps? I don't want to over submit my art because after all they do say Quality over Quantity! Thank you all so much!

It looks okay. I think you could work on the presentation of your works? Especially of your sketches. They look like they've been put together in half a minute.

I think those hoodies stuff doesn't belong to an art portfolio unless you're applying for a design school or a fashion school (even if they are pretty cool ). Don't confuse people, just put in your portfolio what do you want to study from now on (and for the future you should put in your portfolio only the stuff that you'd like to work on, when you'll have to find a job).

Ah yes, I really do think that's a big part of my portfolio that's suffering. When I submit it I'll narrow them down to only show maybe a page of my best work (for the sketchbook) and not overload the submission with a million drawings. It does look pretty unorganized and crammed. Thanks for the feedback~!

Thanks Hitsu for the compliment and feedback :3 I was thinking of including them to show my 'diversity' I suppose and for certain schools they like that, but I can see where you're coming from. I'll definitely keep in mind not to submit it to school that aren't looking for that x'D

I agree...they look very nice but you need to pay more attention to detail. they look a little bit sloppy..

Those are some good work, but for the fashion design, it would be best if you save them in another portfolio for fashion designing class. The proportions are correct, but you got to think about the gravitation force in the drawings. I'm still trying to figure that out myself. Why don't you try some gesture drawings. Good luck! hope this helps, I'm new here.

Thanks for commenting guys! I'll definitely be making sure my newer art and portfolio pieces are 'neater' and try to achieve a more professional look. As for the fashion, that's very true! Those are more than a year old but I'll definitely keep in mind trying to intensify the sense of weight and gravity to my drawings!
Also, welcome Lady Shanta! I'm fairly new here too! hehe
