    StitchWerk's Sketchbook

    Hello everyone.

I made an account here on CA about a year ago but never really did anything with it. I'm in the middle of my fourth year studying Illustration, with the aim to work in visual development. I figured since I've been saturated with commercial and editorial illustration assignments, (mostly doing event posters and illustrations for magazine articles. The like of which would be found in advertisements.) I should get as much feedback as possible regarding that goal.

Now we've been given the freedom to pursue our thesis project, which would ideally be oriented towards our intended career path, be it in children's books, editorial work, what have you.

So in that spirit I've been gathering feedback from various friends and professionals on how to best improve my work for the portfolio. What you see here will be a collection of my work in progress and finished pieces I would like feedback on.

I work primarily in watercolor paints and pencil, but I also do much of my work digitally. I've been making efforts to successfully marry these two mediums.

I have a fascination with folklore. My favorites are the will-o'-the-wisp and 'spook light' stories.
These are quick exercises in lighting [and futility]

This here is a Red Cap Goblin, my rendition inspired by Tony DiTerlizzi's representation of the Cornish red cap legend.
He's an American breed, see his coat and blood soaked tri-corner hat.
A pencil drawing painted in photoshop.

    A Variety of Naiads.

Here's an example of my watercolor sketch work. I have been dabbling with richer colors in my watercolor work lately, so I'll have to post that soon.

These aren't exactly concept art, but I love them. These are call back 'vintage' book covers inspired by the 1880 to 1930 book cover art "Golden Age."

I've done Pinocchio and the Whale, and The Lady of The Lake.

A portrait of a Pond Naiad. Digital with traces of pencil to give it some character. Unfinished.
