    Josh Hagen's New Sketchbook

Hello one and all! My name is Josh Hagen and I work as a storyboard artist, illustrator and sculptor. Most of my work comes from commercial work (storyboards), but I also do film, tv, special fx, etc.

I'm always looking to improve my art and I come here to conceptart often because of all the inspiring art and info. This new sketchbook is a way to show off what I've got and hopefully use it as a platform to improve my skills as well as get my name out more. So please take a look at my artwork and feel free to critique.

My goal is to keep this at least semi-regular as I do have work and I don't really want to post any crappy warm-up drawing that I did in the morning. It won't all be my best, but hopefully I'll be able to save you from viewing my worst.

    Okay, on to the show......

The first 2 were done for a D&D online design challenge. You might have seen other people's versions of the Cook and the Shaman.
The second is my Wizard - from a sketch theatre challenge.
And the last one is another sketch theatre challenge - the Vixxen!

    More to come! Stay tuned!

Another piece to show. The Tamed Beast - pencils. Really enjoyed the effect of the dino-like skin I ended up with on this one.

This illustration shows some kids imagining what they want to be for Halloween.
I finished this one up a few days ago for the Halloween challenge on the drawing tutorials online website. Alas, I didn't even place, but still, I really like it.

Gundam vs. Godzilla! Lot of fun to do this piece. Not just for the characters (which were a lot of fun to work on), but also to work in ink. I also think the composition turned out really nice.

Fun piece to do. I wanted to take the idea of a dragon and do it in a new way. My idea was to make the tongue the source of the fire. It shoots out like a frog, full of fire. The vents on his head is where the smoke is released from the heat. I also wanted to show it as a creature with vestigial legs and wings. I liked that visual image. I wanted there to be a nice big story going on with this image. It went from a flying, running creature to a more of a crawling, soon to be slithering creature.

Jekyll & Hyde self-portrait transformation piece with a crazy little story added on in changing penmanship to add to the feel. 19" x 24" done in pencil. Turned out alright though I would have liked to work on it more. Got a bit rushed at the end and the darks and textures didn't get to the level I was shooting for.

My entry for the MAMA movie's art competition over at deviantart. Didn't make the semi-finals. Oh well. But I do think that it helped me improve my inking and marker work.
