Where should we hold the next ConceptArt.Org Workshop? What city?

We are looking at the U.K. (not sure on the city) and NYC right now but we thought to ask for your input. We would appreciate hearing what you think!

Below are some photos from the prior workshops, that started them all: Reverie, Insomania, and Revelations. Thanks for any answers ahead of time. It has been far too long since we did one of these!

What is this workshop about? Is it just teachers demonstrating, or do students get in on the action? And how much does it cost?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_iQVCij2Z4 Here is a video from one of the older shows which we have held all over the world.

We won't know the tuition cost til later this weekend. It is going to depend on the location. Thanks for asking. The workshops are a four day event that is designed the change the creative lives of the artists and designers who attend, for the better. It includes a full creative program on concept art, modeling, texturing, animation, illustration, fine art, toys, comics, film, freelancing, business, and employment fair and more. This one is geared toward helping artists not just find jobs and get better at their work, but also to create and find opportunities for creative independence through art and entertainment. It is taught by a host of the best artists on earth and it is a hell of a lot of fun too.

Check the video. It shows what it's all about. Each one we up the ante and improve the experience. They really do change lives...including my own. Love it. It has been too long.

I voted for Toronto since it's closest to me, but thinking about it perhaps New York would be best. I feel that it is close enough to draw the same people that would go to Toronto, plus it would get a whole bunch of people from the eastern states.

I want to say New York City because that's where I live but if most of the workshops were done in United States then it might be more fair to do one in Europe.

There are alot of art schools on the east coast and in the city so there is plenty of artists who would attend nyc workshop.

Been saving up a couple of years ready for one of the usual US workshops, if it ends up in London it'll be so much easier for me. Accommodation isn't cheap there, but that's why friends have couches. Can't wait to meet you guys at last.

llllaaaaannnndddaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. seriously, london, for sure, means other Europeans can make it too! Other cities in the UK would most likely be Manchester or Cardiff, Cardiff would be pretty cool.

So far the votes for the UK are

    London -
Positives: Ease of arrival/travel, museums, game and film development hotbed, and it's effing London!
Negatives- Costs might be higher than other UK cities.

    Brighton-
    Positives?
    Negatives

    Cardiff-
    Positives?
    Negatives

    Manchester-
    Positives?
    Negatives?

Any thoughts and input are appreciated. I look for the following when choosing spots:
    a. walkable area - not having to travel by taxi to find food
    b. creative center for art and entertainment -
    c. near hotels
    d. an interesting creative venue location with a big open floorspace (1200 sq meters or thereabouts)
    e. near museums or cool stuff for artists...makes it easy to find things to do for those who get in early or want to stay a day to find the Waterhouse paintings or the Leighton paintings or the or the or the...there is no shortage of British "awesome" when it comes to Art History.

    Any input???

Ok, so the UK folks are dominating the voting on CA.O for the workshop location. So now we need some input based on the cities suggested so far (lemme know if I missed any plz)

I live in Manchester so it'd be awesome if the workshop came here.

Pros: Easy arrival, everything's central, cheap to travel around and accommodation, art galleries, museums, good music / bar scene. There's some nice architecture around here as well.
Cons: Some areas are rough but I've never experienced much of it. It seems to be contained mostly around the estates but the central area is fine. Not really a hotbed for game / film development like London, either. And the weather sucks.

Birmingham is a good city for conventions. It's the most populous British city outside the capital and has the NEC centre for shows.

But London is closer for me so will vote for that!

You guys have no idea how happy I am to see that you're considering cities in the UK. I am so stoked!
I personally like the idea of London but my sister's been to Manchester and thought it had a really great atmosphere plus she found it easy to navigate if that's any help.

Partisan allegiances aside, Manchester is a great city. It has direct access from London and the North, it's central, country wise. Has a thriving social life and scene, and some great art galleries with a cornucopia of Pre-Raphaelites, and it's close to Liverpool and the Walker, Tate and Lady Lever Galleries. It has an international airport and good public transport with the tram system. On the down side, (As Burl says) the weather is famous for being a bit rubbish, Oasis and Simply Red come from here and it has two hugely overrated football teams.

Credit for even considering cities in the UK other than London. London is fab, and I love going there, but it's a big spoiled baby as far as the UK is concerned.
