So I'm starting to work on my own concepts and I'm going to do a bunch of environment concepts for my portfolio. Not sure yet if I want to go with watercolor or digital, but I'll see how it goes. I'm really inspired by the watercolor concept art from Hayao Miyazaki's movies. Look up some they're so inspiring and amazing and I want to die when I look at it for long enough. example

So first try at no referenced work... sketch first

And then I watercolored it and colored more in photoshop quickly to sketch the colors. The dark shapes are gonna be bushes and stuff on the bottom, not tree roots.

I'll probably keep this one digital and finish it up. Any help with composition or whatever would be nice

While your paintings are good, I am disappointed by the lack of cheese.

I really love your pixel art, it is so much fun. I wanted to share a bit of advice about line-work, if you don't mind. You are currently drawing without much confidence. You can tell because your lines are short, and frequently redrawn like you are struggling to find your form. There is a really easy way to fix this, which is to force yourself to draw much much faster. My favorite exercise is to try to draw moving people at a park or a mall or on the bus. You will find that the increased need for speed will force you to commit to the line that you make. If you try it I think you will be really happy with the improvement that you make.

First real life portrait painting. Watercolor, about 3 hours, no pencil sketch, 15"x22". I'm doing 3 more, a 1 hour, 30 min, and 15 min, to demonstrate how time can change the overall form, shape, color, composition, etc.
