unfinished study![]()
Nice startI like that forest study a lot.
CRITIQUE ME
another study.. and yeah im aware i mangled the face.. this was post gym and im super tired![]()
Spent about 2 hours on posemaniacs tonight while everyone was fighting over the elections, the results for the 30 and 90 second sketches aren't worth the time it would take to post them.. But I do have some decent stuff to post from earlier today next time I get on my desktop..
face study from today
![]()
sketched this out while i was wasting 8 hours of my life at the hospital today for them to tell me that they cant tell me anything until bloodwork comes back
![]()
i did some other stuff but its not worth posting
Very cool stuff so far, looking forward to seeing more of you work in here![]()
thanks im just doing basic studies right now figure, color, landscape. i really hope to keep this updated quite often if i dont die or go to jail anytime soon. right now its averaging every other day cause i dont post my posemaniacs trash from the 30 second sketches.
i added it to the show your studio thread but here is my workstation at home. nothing fancy but figured since i took the time to take a picture id post it here too

i colered that turtle i drew at the hospital![]()
after i finish this dragon pirate for fun illustration i think ill do some wildlife studies
painted a wasp tonight![]()
Nice Wasp!! He almost look like a character already. I like your turtle guy too man.![]()
thanks man ive been trying to play with and without lines on stuff, im finding feel really weird about leaving lines on stuff and its making it harder for me to ground my characters into an environment... im sure its just going to take practice and experimenting with things.... sooooo ill get to that practice thing lol
Thanks for commenting on my sketchbook. I actually like your set up. It's cleaner than mine. lol.
I do notice that you struggle with faces a bit on your figures. Also for some reason, in posts #3 and #5 appear blurry around most of your edges. Are you using a soft brush in Photoshop? Start with a hard brush. I've only been using a softer brush once I feel I have the values down in more or less the right places and use it to blend from when the halftone transitions to the terminator. Use the soft brush as finishing touches because they can be useful to blend.
Your wasp painting looks good. It seems that you're only using saturated colors. Not sure if that's what the photo had but I would think there might be some slightly less saturated colors too.
For post #13, were you trying to go all flat colors or have it more rendered? Right now, it looks like it's midway between either style. I would choose one and stick with it. Also, don't use black to shade. It can muddy up the colors.
I do like your sketch in post #14. I'm curious to see what the final result will look like.
Sorry to be so nit-picky. Hope this helps.
istmin52: go ahead and be nitpicky if its wrong and something i need to improve im more than willing to hear it. the digital thing is kinda new to me, i mean ive done it for a short period of time a long time ago but i dont feel i have the same control as i do with traditional media im just so sick of setting up and cleanup and waiting for things to dry..
yeah faces are something i need to work on, no excuses its just a weak spot
the wasp, i mostly sampled colors from the original photo.. the painting is actually very off but i didnt want to spend more than an hour on it because i did it to learn how a wasps bodyparts interconnect and not fuss over making it identical to the photo.
for 13.. the turtle, im not sure i know what i was shooting for i was mostly just playing around i have alot to learn and without formal instruction most of my stuff is just messing around until i learn something
and yeah im working on 14 but i have issues grounding characters to environments so im probably gonna ditch the environment and just use a random background
also thanks for stopping by
well i did it again, i used linework with rendering that really didnt suit it, this is an issue ill have to work on. feel free to critique it and ill use your suggestions in future paintings but i probably wont go back into this one

Nice start on the sketchbookand thanks for popping by mine
Great colour studies, and your gestures a good start. Have you seen the Spartan Camp in the Challenges section? It's awesome motivation for those.
Well...one thing I'd like to point out is that we have the same desk. In any case, your studies are looking great thus far (especially those insects, and I'm deathly afraid of wasps). With regards to your gestures, perhaps you could try loosening up a bit. Don't spazz out with scribbles everywhere, but just take the time to see the contour of the figure and it's large basic shapes.. Don't be afraid to go big, give your arm some space to move around.
Though I'm really digging that dragon pirate fellow, the underbelly of the neck (if that makes any anatomical sense) should follow the cylindrical shape of the neck, and I believe the same could be said for the tail as well. Wrap ellipses around those parts of the body and use them as guides.
@lionheartgfx: thank you for the kind words, i have a long road to travel and alot of work to do because one day i hope to become a illustrator, but kind words help light that path and make it less intimidating so thank you.
@angel: its funny you mention those because i just found them today looking at the other weekly stuff and thank you for stopping my my sketchbook as well
@exhno: i totally see what your talking about. the tail is more of a triangular shape but your comment still applies ... about the DESK do the power strips in your hiding compartment work cause i dont feel like anything fits mine.. and as for the gestures i think some of them are the 30 second posmaniacs gestures which send me into panic mode lol.. but i will follow your advice on some new ones soon where i have no time limit.. in any case thank you for stopping by and i plan on giving your advice a shot when i do some more gesture pose practice
ive been slacking on my studies lately because of some crazy real life stuff going on but i should be back on track soon
so ive decided to do the spartan camp thing from the beginning , i made an attempt to get a group together to do it but no luck im afraid . so it appears im on my own.. in any case i think i made it to like 20 gesture poses today for the first assignment.. if i can im also going to try to sneak in some chows and eows when time allows.. ill post my gestures from today later.
moar stuffs

from tonight after i took my pain meds, i know there's lots of issues like the heads a little too big , whats funny is i drew it right then i used lasso and free transform to make it bigger cause i thought i drew it too small, and the leg while possible doesn't look like its very comfortable and i need to make the hip on the left side go up just a bit.. i appropriately named the file "fuckit.jpg" lol

right, we've been shooting the shit in the lounge a lot recently and its well past time I check this stuff out yo.
the thing that really jumps out is the skin on the ladies, damn thats seriously smooth. the girl in post 5, her face needs some time thrown at it, try flipping the image that makes the incongruities pop out, but her body, shit dude thats pretty tight. really nice blending, wish i could do that!!
the other thing is on dino pirate guy, thats some tight linework. youre a tattooist by trade right? it shows in that steady hand.
i also like tghe 30 min bettle sketch, thats working pretty well for me..
i think youre looking good, keep doing the studies, if its hard thats a good sign, and keep smashing out the nude studies, theyre really decent.
