No update yesterday. Had a colonoscopy an still feel kind of under the weather. Was absolutely done with the world yesterday. Well, sedation does that to you I guess.

that life study is stunning and those figure studies are impressive as well,on the poster it would be interesting if you tried to gradiate the top of the picture from a lower value to the focal point,
also those glasses seem like they would be great to draw the eye in a circular manner,maybe use some rim lights and color variation to accentuate that.

This was done from life, this time with natural light. Quite tricky, it's amazing how fast the light changes.

Thank you V3T. I wish it weren't so, but 3 semesters from graduation it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to change direction.

Hey Benedikt, impressive sketchbook you have here.
Your still lives are looking good, you've come a long way since 2005! The colours are particularly nice. That combined with the bloom effect makes for a nice mood.
I do think you can push your edges more. i.e you can make the edges and textures sharper in the areas that are lit. Some softer and lost edges can help with the depth of field as well.

The last few portraits are great, it's nice to see your process. Keep it up!

Your scope really is impressive! I'm especially a fan of the moody lightings, colors and terrain details of your environments but the way you make the steady flow of portraits look solid and sidestep to something as technical this space ship and the aeroplane drawings so fluently, is really impressive.

On the still lives on the last page, the values look great and I like the subtle use of texture but I think you could push your eye more to see the subtle color shifts. On the bowl and apples piece, the bowl looks kind of dead grey, I think there should be a hint of color in the halftone at least and the front side should probably have some kind of reflection of the apple. I think the WIP looks more interesting color-wise. Also, you seem to use white and black for highlights and shadows. I guess it's ok when the most extreme values have no color in them but usually they do. The skull study is beautiful, I love the purple and yellow in the final, you have such a great eye for color combinations like that!

Also, thanks a lot for posting so many WIP-animations, they are really instructive!

smuli, thanks so much for your input. I generally try to completely avoid black/white for value adjustment, I guess in the life studies I was struggling with too many things and so lost track of that particular problem.

Thanks V3T. Really means a lot to have people come by and drop a line or two (thanks to everyone again). I do see some little progress in my work but I feel like I've been mainly churning out sub-par work recently. I guess that's because I've been tackling weak spots these last days (with the exception of the life studies, I feel okay about those), so naturally I don't feel as comfortable.
I'll try to get into some finished illustrations/enviros tomorrow or next week in general, just to feel a little better about myself again

Can I just say absolutely gorgeous sketches.
Very inspiring for an artist like me who is looking to reach the level you are one day in the near future.
I love your anatomy, adore your painting, and am mesmerized by your lights and darks.
You make every figure look like they could move off the page and become tangible.
