    Drawing and Sharing, feedback appreciated!

Trying to improve my work in general, by focussing on values, colours and observational skills.

Heres my first nude study. I know it sucks, and er boobs are a bit weird.

    hey fuggedaboudit!

this is a pretty good start!; and not a bad job on getting values and proportions down.
some small critiques on your study: her thigh is a little less thick (there is a large light-gray area under her thigh in the photo, its smaller in your study). also, the wood section at the bottom of the window-shutter at the far right about x3 taller in the photo than in yours, and her shadow on the shutter should be a little stronger. otherwise, all i can say is: don't crop out the left side! expand it to include her hand and the metal rod

Hey there! It's always good to see a new sketchbook.

My suggestion is to look harder at what you're referencing. See what's there, pay close attention, and go more slowly in your studies. It looked like you rushed it a bit -- get your study, put it on a new layer above the reference, and lower the opacity so you can see the difference. Look at the angles of your lines, the size of patches of colour, your proportions -- things like that.

    Post again soon!

Your colors in your studies are pretty accurate for the most part, but I would try to observe more closely like others have suggested. Also, don't be afraid to use a bigger brush!

Hey are you painting with opacity and flow set to pen pressure? what will help is actually just painting with blocky brush and use flat colors. after then blend. But that's a standard most people will tell you on here, if you stay around long enough. So lol, I guess I'm just contributing to that idea. But hey, everyone paints differently, and learns differently, whatever works for you man. Good stuff. I don't have anything to say on the technical side of things. I'll let someone else do that. Keep it up for real!!

Wow, great tips everyone! Thanks a load, I really appreciate it! Maybe next time I will try using a larger brush! Won't let me carried away with details
Here is a short update of the study, and a sketch for my latest caricature. I included the final piece as well.

Like the caricature painting, the skin tones look great. I'd echo the larger more opaque brush suggestion for the photo study. I think her right breast should be a bit higher (from the bottom) since it doesn't seem to line up with the angle of her shoulders. My perspective and anatomy skill are pretty... meh, so.. haha. Keep posting!

Hey Fuggedaboudit, you've made a great start here. You're under drawings look good and you're using some really nice colours for your paintings. My main critique is that your paintings strokes are cutting along the form rather than across it. This tends to flatten things out and stops your from describing the full volume of the shape, you can see this a lot in your nude study above. Have a read through this article by Greg Manchess and see how he explains painting form. Keep on going dude!

Thanks for this great tip! Will certainly use it next time I paint! it gives indeed much more volume to the form of the shapes.
