My Painter X suddenly won't open anymore.....please help!

Hi,
I hope someone can help me here.
I have had and used Painter X for years whilst on my Mac. I have since moved to a PC and installed Painter there and it seemed to work ok but now whenever I try to open it I immediately get a second of the opening screen then the message, "The application has encountered a problem and had to close" message pops up in a new window with a send report option.
That is all I get everytime.

I tried uninstall and reinstall and I tried holding shift down to get the reset workspace options and reset them but nothing works. It will not open for me
This is driving me crazy!!!

What do I do?

Does it also not open if you double click a .rif file or right-click>open with Painter some other image file?

Try holding shift when starting Painter, to reset the workspace. It may be corrupted. On Windows I also have a problem where it doesn't actually close, so bring up the task manager and make sure Painter.exe isn't in the processes tab. If it is, end the process.

Out of curiosity did you add more RAM or are you on a 64 bit system?

I am on a 64 bit system with 16gb RAM. I read in my searches that this could be an issue specific to 64 bit systems with more than 8gb.

I did the holding shift down at start thing already, (see first post) but no joy.

I tried right click and opening an image with painter and got the same needing to close window.
Since moving to the pc, I focused entirely on photoshop it seems since I have yet to find a single .rif file I can try. All my backups seem to have only psd files.....must search harder.

When I find a .rif file I will try it and get back to you.
Any other suggestions?

Yeah, I think that Painter X doesn't like more than 8GB of RAM installed. I'm sure that Arshes will confirm or clarify. There is a fix apparently but it looks a little complicated. Still, if you can't use Painter as it is right now....

Painter X has a ram limit, which is why they developed 11. You can use that memory limit patch to try to get Painter running again.
