A question to the character designers and such

    Hey people of concept art!
So I was wondering about what ideas for character you guys have but never really got to doing, or you can just post an idea up here and maybe others can help you expand on it. Maybe you'll also inspire someone.
So yeah, just made this thread to see what kinda of characters you guys thought of or can think of.
For example: Gator Dog, half aligator half dog. Sorta got the idea out of the blue, thought it would be funny since when you think about an aligator, things like powerful jaws and the death roll come to mind. Mixing this with a dog it would be funny because things like frisbee would drastically change and also when you ask a dog to roll over or play tug o' war with it.

Actually they pretty much did that in The Croods movie. And I'm pretty sure thousand other things have done that too.
I don't know, I just can't really see the point of this thread (then again this thread may be fun for others). I mean everything's been done and I'd be more interested on seeing people do something new with the execution of the idea, than just read about people's unused ideas.
I'd also rather see a Sketchbook thread where you post your art. Like a drawing of that gator dog for example.

(from the first one of his gnomon dvds on visual storytelling)

    do you mean...
    1) you feel unable to record an idea on paper
    or
    2) you aint satisfied with the quality of the visual representation
    ?

drawing in the case of creating a record is just a means to an end. young kids do that really well so it cant be a matter of draftsmanship. the issue here is mainly that the concept aint that strong, if the sketch/picture lacks impact. i didnt notice that for a long time and thought representation would matter more, but i came to think its quite useless if in the end theres little to communicate.

design is king and has nothing to do with your linequality, tools, mediums, and so on, but with function, inovation, patterns and most importantly beauty.

for me a better way to create a thread like this, would be to add a sketch of whatever you came up with. just to get people feel comfortable about sharing their ideas. otherwise it might aswell be read as fishing for ideas, and to be honest (at least without a quite unique visual concept) gator-dog seems a bit too random to make me feel very excited, and convinced you spent as much thought on this, you ask people to.

But didn't you also say the point of this thread is to help people expand their ideas (in which even a crude drawing is better than nothing), and isn't the point of this whole forum is to help people with their art?
