Ariya's Sketchbook - Critique very welcome!

    Hello, =)

My name is Christina and I'm studying Intermedia Design. I'm here to improve my art and I hope you guys can help me.
Critique is very, very, very welcome. I really need to get better!

I started drawing a few years back but only in a very simple mangastyle with no sense for anything and very sporadic. Half year ago I got my tablet and restarted drawing with a goal: I want to be a Concept Artist.

I highly used a reference for this because it's really hard for me to draw realistic faces.

    Again a little Update.

I did my first self portrait! Was kind of challening and omg it sucks but it's a start I think. I hope tons of self portraits will follow.
Do you have some improvement suggestions?

Great line of studies so far. Really like your little dinosaur and the enviro with the mountain looks fab. Keep going at those portraits, they are very difficult, but I think you made a pretty damn fine job on yours. Keep going, you're going to be mega good if you do!

I can only agree with the commenter before me; So far the work is amazing! The only minor point of crit I'd have is that the reflection on the water in the 2nd enviro could be more accurate -but that's it. Keep working!
Please take a look at my Sketchbook! <- Comments are highly appreciated and returned C:

Hey there Christina! Thank you for coming to my SB. Some nice stuff you have here.

I think you are doing great, specially with the figure studies. Two things to consider when you are painting: When you have an object casting shadow on himself, the forms really pops out, it would help your rocks, since the "form" principle is very obvious on them. But also the form principle has some limitations. See for example the clouds, you not always have highlight, core shadow and so on... and this happens because some of the light of the sun passes through it so the cloud becomes quite light overall. This is just the beginning, and i'm not the best person to talk about it, lol. Just keep in mind that you have to practice ALL the time and also, i would recommend you to take part on the challenges of the week, i really improved a LOT since i was in a competitive environment. So, you have great potential, keep it up and see ya! =)

@Caio Chagas: Thanks! That helps me a lot.

Again an selfportrait. The first one I did without any help. Then I got help from Valyavande and I repainted it a bit. Thank you. SO MUCH TO LEARN!!!

Yeah, that second self portrait looks much better, it's got more features to it, more contrast, makes the face look much more natural. It's a lot more interesting to look at because of the contrast, and you show the more subtle anatomy than the first, which looks plastic in comparison. So good work on that.

And good work on those figures, I can really see movement to them. No crit for now, sorry.

Wow really great suff, looove the creatures in your last post and am gonna steal some of your exercise techniques The portraits are getting better but there's still something a little off, i think it maybe that all the edges are of the same softness - maybe harden a few? But i'm a total noob tho!

@kevin_: Thank you! Glad you like them!
@Umbravita: Thank you. It's still SO hard for me to paint digital, especially realistiv portraits but I want to master this so I need to practice more.
@Kishire: Thank you. Also glad that you like my stuff!
@Kerro Perro: I think I'll try that in my next portrait. Thanks.

    nice gestures and creature design!
some hue variation might add a lot to the disgn. like the gradient on a cats paw, or or feathers arent all the same color in a bird.

How's the animal anatomy going? It looked like you were getting the hang of it really quickly, some texture studies could be really helpful too imo. Keep going!

Concerning the animal anatomy, I think you should do some studies of each type of skeleton (canine, equine and feline) because especially with the legs you seem to be mixing them up a bit in bone length and angle
