im gonna be doing some short scenes in a short film and i need some help brain storming. what is a good object that embodies depression and struggle?? or can it be anything but just with the right atmosphere lighting, feel, etc?

Well that usually depends on your film/story and what's required in the scene and what works in the context since objects etc can change their meaning significantly depending on what else is going on. Personally I'd aim for the second option though.
