    Teen Challenge 182: Master Copy!

    Teen Challenge 182: Master Copy

    Topic
This week's topic is Master Copy. This is an exercise that is super useful in learning, very fun, and ridiculously humbling. Choose a painting by one of your favourite artists and do a copy of it in any medium you choose. Please DO NOT trace, grid, or colour pick from the original. I want this to be an exercise that tests your skills, not one in who has the most patience to be a photocopier without any information entering the brain. Obviously I can't really enforce the no tracing, gridding or colour picking, so it will have to be on an honour system type thing (well, I can tell if you trace probably, but still...).

Also I will ask that people please post the painting they are copying as well so others can compare.

If you don't know any artists to copy, start here:
    http://www.artrenewal.org/articles/M...ar_Artists.php

Wikimedia also has a very good collection of hi-res art images, so try checking out there if you are having trouble getting a good image to copy

    Focus
This weeks focus is accuracy. Get your copy to look like the original! You have two weeks so no excuses!

    Deadline
The deadline is Sunday 4th of November, 23:59 GMT

Interesting, I am assuming then our own stylisation of the same piece is not possible then? Also are you wanting it so it can be portraits, or full compositions or what. Do they have to be from CA and do we have to know them e.g can I just use some of my favourite concept work for a game I like, not knowing them but liking what they do? Sorry for all the questions! haha

Yeah, don't stylize this one. Paint it the way they did as it's the best way to learn. And you can choose anyone to do a study of, whether it be an Old Master, a contemporary painter, an illustrator, a concept artist, whatever. If you don't know who did a piece of concept art by the way, you can probably find out who did it by doing a bit of research into who works for that company/who worked on that game or whatever. It's probably a good idea to find out their name so you can find more of their work too.

Ooh nice idea! I'll have a go at this one and hopefully finish in time My artist is well a group of artists called Geliografic. I like a lot of their work, so this is a good excuse to copy some of it!

Creusa: Yes, studies of a section of a painting are still acceptable.

William: Yup, do another one--remember that you can only enter one into the final poll though. You could also spend longer on the first one. Chances are if you finished this quickly you can still put more time and effort in to make it even better.

I am finishing up a painting that was originally done in 1822 if thats old enough for ya. Im probably gonna try out a piece from 1642 later on today. So your not the only one doing one from an old master.
