My Redesign of Hidan Naruto Character

I want to do something with the Naruto characters for a while now so I decided to redesign them in my own style. This is one of many more characters from the naruto world coming. Also want to thank Masashi Kishimoto for making a series like Naruto.

Could you make it a little bit smaller so its possible to see the whole image at once without scrolling down?

Also since this is a re-design, posting the original character along with who he is wouldn't hurt either, since character design doesn't exist separate from the personality and the history of the character.
But even aside that, you require lots of drawing and painting from life, the fundamentals in this are lacking. The lighting makes little sense, there's not much clothing feel in the clothing and having the colouring be lots of tiny scribbles doesn't look very good either.

Here is the original beside the character. and thanks for the comment. scribbles are crosshatching but its all good, I prefer to do my work in this style so the clothes will not feel that way I am still in further development of achieving a painterly feel to my work. See you have a original style to your work and I am trying to find my I really do take what you giving me and it has further concluded what I though about me style and work so thanks much. ChaosShannon. hey also if you have time check out my devianart page I would love to have your take on my other works. http://chaosshannon.deviantart.com/ thanks again.

Hmm, that's a pretty drastic re-design. Do you have any reasoning why you went this route? I mean the design is almost the complete opposite of the original character.

That helmet/mask is too small for a head to fit into.

If you drew the mask how should it be to fit the structure of the face? thanks ChaosShannon

Two important things: first, his pose, it looks like he's touching his crotch, which is kind of awkward. Second, his foots, feet are usually as big as the bone in the forearm, you can use that as a guideline to know if one of them is to small, in this case the feet are to small.
For the design itself, is there a reason or backstory about the bandage on his knee? If there isnt you should remove it.

Thats all i can do for now, good luck!

Well the problem with this is that you're not really designing a character, you're just making a more or less random design that in this case shares some similarities to a Naruto character, especially if none of the parts (armor, mask etc) have any relevance to the character.

Are you roughing out your poses? It doesnt look like it. Check out these tutorials about roughing your character before you go to final by Dreamworks Story-man, Rad Sechrist. Don't let the disney-esq drawing style fool you- this goes for ANY character.

Well I did use the characters mood and style in my redesign its that when I added the warp on the leg I thought it would be cool. I don't like doing random design there no way to base anything from doing that. now here the other version of this character the naruto style version. Name: FORMAT FOR CONCETORG.jpg

If you look up the character hidan you will see the characters personality is still there and I wanted to make he seem more sinister. But that why I'm on here to get true feed back for people whom are way better and thank you guys for your comments.

well first of all you arent drawing through, which helps with the rhythm of your pose and structure (See Glen Keane). The silhouette is weak, you need to open up the pose more so that it reads better. Turn it more so that its on a 3/4 angle, right now its really ambiguous....is it a side shot? not really, but its not 3/4 either. Well....its legs are...its chest isnt...its head...well i have no idea whats going on with its head. I superimposed your rough over your final and there isnt much change really. Your helmet as Elwell said, is the size of his skull...think about the material its made of....steel, and whats it for? it protects...so its gotta be thick. I would just focus on your structure and proportion until you got that, then add costume. Once you have that knowledge things will come easier...costume is really hard, no matter what anybody says. Check out Ryan Lang's skull dude. Look how CLEAR the silhouette is. Theres no question about what kind of guy this is and what his goals are, even in this neutral pose. His chest is up his shoulders are back, hes ready for a fight. Your guy, looks like hes about to get the shit kicked out of him.
