James Gurney's color and light book is the best resource I've found for color, composition however I haven't delved into as much. I think it was Jason Manley that made a huge video all about composition that you can get on this site, I watched it once but it was so long ago I should probably watch again ha xD
Here's James Gurney's book:

Work from life to learn color. Gurneys book will help but isn't a substitute for life studies. Arthur Wesley Dow's book composition is a great book too and will teach you the basic concepts behind composition
thanks guys
@Forrest_I Thanks i'll definitely check this book!
@dpaint yes you're right. I don't really work from life... it's a point that a have to work onThanks a lot
I don't know many books myself but here are some websites:
http://www.huevaluechroma.com is a good place to start learning about the concepts of colors and how we see colors.
http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/wmap.html (this is the site map page, use crtl+f to search the word "color" for color resources) is another great place to learn about modern color theory and the site also offers many other useful resources. It can be confusing and technical at times but make sure you give it a try.
thanks for answerin'i think i have to read and paint a the same time. I came back from a pretty sweet weekedn in the campaing so i had the opportunities to shot some really cool landscape. I'm gonna work on this and put my studies in my sketchbook thread.
Thanks again guys![]()
A really good starter for composition is Drawing Scenery by Jack Hamm. First part of the book demonstrates really solid composition principles and development.

Learning colors and composition requires a ton of study until you begin to 'feel' what works and what doesn't; I don't feel any books will be major in help in this regard, save for some on color theory.

Glenn Vilppu has a composition dvd set and composition manual. I dont know how good it is though I dont have that particular set. His other stuff is good though so I would expect the same. Also Barnstone Studios has a (expensive) dvd set that strongly focuses on composition and the golden rectangle.
You know about James Gurney and his books, I didn't really think It helped a lot. It just seems that his books are for the more advanced rather than beginner. Mostly talking about the second book, but there is some confusing stuff in color and light too. Anyway you can check out ctrl paint.com if you haven't already.

"Gunrey" sounds like a character from a '70s Japanese sci-fi series.

I knew it reminded me of something. (kak prequels.)
OP asks for books, people recommend books.
Person says book sucks/unhelpful and throws in videos.
Brilliant.
There was little point in that edit Izbrunz, your burning shameful typo has been forever immortalized in my quote.
We are not party poopers, quite the opposite actually. Learn to laugh at yourself, it helps in this industry.![]()
You become "advanced" by being aware of the path before you.
