There is a lot of really diligent work here. You are definitely making progress. I would recommend doing imaginative work immediately after doing a study to see how you can apply what you have learned.
    For Science- Sketchbook!

ForScience – Thanks for the advice, applying my studies is something I definitely need to put more effort in to.

A few environment studies from today and then one from imagination. They’re pretty messy but I think doing these have helped a bit.

Hello Some Photoshop stuff today. I began my battle with drapery and lost. And attempted an imagination piece but I didn’t finish because I don’t think it was really going anywhere good haha. I’m also going to start more still-life’s because I’m still really struggling with colours as well... Thanks for looking

Very nice sketchbook out here! It is visible you put hard work to improve your skills. I like poses from post #45 especially. I was browsing through first page and then I came across hands that looked so similar to something.. (post #6). I was just drawing them from Bridgeman's Constructive Anatomy and uploaded them a moment ago. What an coincidence, isn't it? : )

kevin_ - Thank you so much!

Narholt– Thank you! Yep, you can’t go wrong with Bridgeman.

I think the daily self-portraits are paying off a bit. I tried doing one in greyscale and then repeating it in colour, this helped a lot with my problem with values. I tried a portrait from imagination and it went no better than any other haha. I’m sure it will come with more practice. There’s also a still life, one of my goals for February is to do a lot of them since I think they will help with a lot of different things that I’m struggling with. More imagination work is also a goal.

    Thank you for looking.

you are getting better at interpreting forms, I would recommend the vilppu figure course, that thing really helped me at the start (I still suck at It but it helped me a lot)

In an attempt to update regularly here are a few anatomy studies. There was quite a bit more and some imagination doodles but as you can tell from the photos the lighting isn’t too great. I’m trying to find a balance between studies and work from imagination at the moment.

A quick update of some of the studies and doodles from today, I’ve been focusing a bit more on digital stuff but most of it isn’t worth posting at the moment. Also, there is my final self-portrait of January. I’m kind of proud that I managed to stick to it haha.

Hey, your figure and hand studies are fantastic. With your colour studies it kind of looks like you're thinking in terms of absolute colours rather than relationships. Kind of like the difference between thinking the 'grass is green', vs 'the grass is green, but the hue shifts towards red as it moves into the light, and towards blue with a reduction in saturation as it moves into the distance, and towards green/yellow and more saturated in the shadow'*. Hope this makes sense/is useful, keep it up

*probably not true, I'm just trying to illustrate the point :o

Kvetch – Thank you! I wish I read your comment earlier in the day because I really want to look more at that now. I feel a bit silly for not properly thinking about it

Here are a couple of the pretty rushed studies from today… There is also a bad traditional painting I did in college, I’m going to be doing a lot more so hopefully using traditional media will require me to think a lot more about the colours and as mentioned above I’m going to start looking more at colour because I’m determined to get a better understanding. Thanks for looking; hopefully I’ll start improving soon.

I’m sorry for the lack of updates; college has been taking a lot of my time over the past few days. Just studies to post, unfortunately. I’m going to focus on imagination work next week because I think in some cases doing studies has become more of a hindrance than a help, so as I mentioned earlier I need to find a balance. As I was advised earlier, I’m going to make sure to work from imagination after most of the studies I do.
