Nice start to your sketchbook. It looks like you have a way with the more foliage based, organic stuff the most. I'd try to bring that same looseness you have with those into your anatomy drawings. You'd be surprised at the kind of marks you can achieve when you don't go into a drawing so tight.

Thank you, Nickodemus. True.. I have just bought a graphite pencil set, and i'll try to be more liberated with my lines. Btw, the pen sketches, and the digital environments in your sketchbook are beautiful.

I won't, you are right, makes lines too thick, and is a waste of time.
    Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for the comment! Great amount of work here, the trees and stuff in pen look really nice. You might want to brush up on your perspective and form so you better understand the anatomical forms you're studying. You should try simplifying the forms, turning the figures into boxes to help you understand the forms better

Nice. Keep at it. I started messing w/ digital painting a couple days ago, but I'm thinking I'll head back to drawing foundations for the time being. I suppose there's no reason not to do both, and painting's definitely fun, but I'm feeling the itch to get better at just plain drawing, and fast.

Anyway, keep pushing, as people seem to say around here.

Hi Mepainter, digital paint isn't similar to traditional paint. My suggestion is to read a lot of books about colour, i can suggest 1. Color and Light: A Guide for the Realist Painter by James Gurney and 2.Color Choices: Making Color Sense Out of Color Theory by Stephen Quiller.

Thanks, Nicoleta! Oh i'm desperate for such critiques... I know, my colours and light distribution need some overhaul. Thanks for recommending the books, i'll try searching for them.

Hey man, like the work so far but you're right you need to understand light better! and understand your painting. I like your environments they're nice But your figures and portraits are not too great! For some things you're thinking in the symbols still, eyes do not look like that! Study eyes, study how they are made the structures and planes. For this i recommend the books by andrew loomis or anatomy & figure drawing books by Michael Hampton. For light i again recommend James Gurney's books, all of them really he's brilliant, but more specifically Colour & Light.

(loomis books can be found online for download)

Great that you do so many studys. I think you could try to focus for a certain amount of time like two weeks or one month or so all your efforts on one subject you are intersted in the most. I think one studys more efficient like that and you ll see faster results because you focus one one subject only. Furthermore of course always search for fundamental knowledge in literture and the web if you dont yet. You have a nice start here, keep it up!

EDIT: Oh sry I didnt see the second page! Loomis is a great teacher I also just started to study with his figure drawing for all its worth some 3 month ago or sth. I think you would do well if you would first try to push your drawing and then jump to values colour because this way you have a stronger construction and form knowledge on which you can base your painting studys on. But this is also just my personal preference.
