Hello guys! After the changes I couldn't log in using Facebook anymore, so I lost my old account, Randomeister! But that's okay, new account, fresh new start, yeah?

So!
Let's just start up with an introduction!
I'm 'Rissa! I'm 18, and I've been interested in drawing a long, long time. A few years ago, I finally began to decide to sit down and figure out how to draw WELL, and now I'm in college in a degree in History, but I'm still interested in learning to draw well, so I can properly illustrate my ideas!

Anyway, after this, expect lots of sketch dumps, and many updates!
Any and all comments and critiques are welcome, but try to be constructive!

Take a life drawing class if your university has one! I would say that and my color class were the 2 best helps I had while in college.

The stuff from reference is pretty good even though the proportions are a bit out of whack.
My biggest concern is the values. If you want something that's not just lines I'd recommend you to
start in black and white and a medium value background. Don't make things too complicated by doing color at the same.
You can always colorize later!

I think this is great advice! Mostly right now though, I'm focusing on lines/major shapes, because I guess I always felt getting the shape down first was really important. The reason I generally have color in my sketches is pretty simple though--I get very distracted when I sketch in black. But if I use pink or blue for sketches, somehow it keeps my attention. (I'm unmedicated ADHD, so I do everything I can to improve my art while also maintaining my art.) But when I do practice values more, I am definately going to try to use black/white/gray more. Thank you so much for the advice!

Hey, thanks for checking out my SB. Since you've stated that you're mainly interested in drawing well, at the moment, I'd suggest to do so you really spend most of your time with perspective drawing. Get that into your system as much as you can and then move onto building forms. Your drawings will look a million times better once you understand how to transfer 3d forms onto 2d planes. Good work so far and it's great to meet someone new on here.

Hey thanks for stopping by at my sketchbook, pretty much MrFrenik is right you need to work on and spend time with perspective drawing(which is something I need to do too >_<). Another thing I could add is to do tons of life drawings you are working your way around the human form. I can see you like to work a lot from imagination which is something really rewarding to do although I believe you need to start doing some more observational drawings and studies. I can understand it looks like you are pursuing arts as more of a hobby so just relax and take your time working on your drawings just have fun while you do so . Great job with the sketchbook so far! so just keep at it, I am looking forward to more of your drawings.

@MrFrenik Thank you so much for stopping by! I think you're so right about the perspective--there's some perspective practice in the bundle down there, and I'll be doing some more in the very near future.

@KamiKazel33t I will def be following his advice! I'm actually interested in becoming part of the industry, but not as a full-time job--more as in, I'd sell my comics ect ect.

Wow, I love the bright colours you use, they're so exciting! I see you're working on perspective and the form of the face, that's great. I think that'll help you a lot. I also think you'd be well served to slow down a little and polish your lines a bit more.

But your sketches are really lively and fun already, so keep on keepin' on!

I really like the way you portray such a wide variety of hair texture and the strokes you use for those. Those are some of my favourite pieces from this thread. I can see you're doing a lot of anatomical studies. I think if you keep that up on a regular basis, you're really going to see the anatomy of your imagined drawings improve.

Hi RissaKay and welcome to CA! As other suggested, pencil drawing is important, and so the study of perspective. You have a good line, but lack of chiaroscuro and some perspective. If I can I suggest to do at least some anatomy and perspective study everyday. Some books are really interesting, like Andrew Loomis collection. You can find it in pdf format.

I love Loomis! I try to practice him as much as possible, and I will try better with my lines and perspective!
