    Fossegrimen`s colorful world

    Hello!

I have been "stalking" conceptart for years now and finally decided to join as well
Until now I never really had the confidence to start a sketchbook here, but today I just thought "if you don`t do it now, you never will". So, here I am.

I hope that this sketchbook will help me to practise in a more consistent way. Anatomy is my weak point and I really want to improve.
    Critique is very much welcome.

Just posting some finished pieces for now, so you know what to expect
And yes, I obviously love colorful things

All of the pieces are done with watercolor and ink pens. For some I used coffee and tea as well.

I have bought a book from Glenn Fabry in order to learn more anatomy. It is actually quite helpful
Long time since I just used a pencil to sketch. Just realized how much I missed it.

Oh! This is just like the good old school days! Well, I am sure that I can draw an apple. But I am not sure if my apple will fulfill your expectations I don`t praise myself to be very good at realistic stuff, but for you I can try to draw an apple.

Mirroring the above by saying, wow, I love your colours. I've got a softspot for elves/fairies and celtic knots too, so I'm fairly bias.

If you feel like your work's stiff though, try doing a few gesture drawings as a warm up before any big peice.

These two links are glorious for that sort of stuff.

My real crit is I feel you might be up in your comfort zone. I'm seeing a lot of 1/4, or front on faces that either end at the neck or the shoulder. Because of that, a lot of these pictures give me the same vibe when your characters might be entirely different in personality. There's only so much you can get from just a face.
Hands are also an important part of communicating a character, along with the way people point their feet, or balance themselves. We're all programmed to analyse so much from the slightest hand gestures, having so few pictures where you explore that feels a little like you are trying to avoid figures, and cutting out a lot of potential expressiveness in the process.

Your studies show your figures aren't too bad, so don't shy away from them. Try different things, different expressions/compositions/poses in your paintings.
Perhaps do more thumbnail sketches before your peices? I hear that really strengthens someone's ability to make dynamic images.

My crits aside, this is a really nice start and I'd love to see more. Keep up the good work!

And something to take my mind off. Studio Ghibli inspired! I neither own Totoro, nor Fujimoto.

@ kevin_: Thank you Yeah, my new years resolution is to draw more anatomy studies ^o^/

@ Naidy: Thank you I am glad to hear that you like my work! And what you say is totally true. I`ve a tendecy to draw the same thing over and over again. Actually I find it easier to sketch anatomy poses, compared to render them into a "finished" piece. When I start inking the lines, it all turns into a stiff mass! But I will try harder! Thank you for the links too. Very helpful!.

You have an astute grasp on color theory and watercolor painting. On the other hand, Naidy has a point about your subject material.

Nice start on the anatomy studies! Try to vary up that line weight some, and look for lines that cross the figure a bit more, to help demonstrate some of that muscle form.
