Studies, Paintings, and oil sketches

Hello everyone...I'm practicing to become a professional painter, I've been teaching myself for years, its been an extremely long and painful struggle.
I'm hoping to apply for one of those scholarship programs on the ARC. Hopefully It'll workout...
I'll be posting whatever I paint from life or from reference or from a photograph of a master painting on this thread.

I hope you guys like my work and critiques are very much welcome.

For starters here are a couple of miniature oil studies of old master paintings

It took me a month with this one. In 2009.it had to be burnt in various kiln temperatures...it was a long process I learnt a lot from it.
But I wish I would've been able to control the results more accurately.

This was a painting of a Japanese doll I painted it from life and it's still a work in progress

Dimensions are 13x18cm oil on canvas

This is a a portrait study oil on canvas dimensions are 5x8cm for the portrait I painted it on an A4 canvas.

And this I just started from life.

I started this tonight...I think I made quite a few mistakes on this one...should define the pectoralis better...and should probably put in some shadows.. since i wasn't really concerned with accuracy but was aiming for color, I'll let it pass, I will however add some blues in the skin tones.



I worked on her today a little bit. I gave her some form, a bit of color, an eye and a nose...
It is a bit difficult to paint that small, if you think about it.

Just painted this today...on a round canvas...diameter is 30cm.

I've been busy with a Bouguereau, thought I'd refresh my eyes, I wish I can afford to have models from life but ...
Geuss good reference of my sister-in-law will have to do.

Dimentions : 20.5x30.5cm. This is a detail, I'll be posting updates as the work progresses.

So the painting I'm copying is the painting of "Madame la Comtesse de Cambaceres" painted in 1895. I'm painting it from a high quality photoprint...dimentions are 20x27.5cmMy Painting is also 20x27.5cm.
Oil on paper.

Great stuff Seems like you are on a very solid track. I will take more time tomorrow to enjoy those shots, but I cant just stop by quickly and leave nothing in here when there are images like that.

Anyway...I've worked on her tonight and I think i still need to work more on the mouth and her right eye (our left)

I think I'll be cutting the paper from the top and bottom it wont be 20x33cm anymore....but that remains to be seen for now here is a little update.

This is a portrait of my wife I think its coming out pretty nicely in the previous post I didnt like how it came out . I'm gonna work on it and fix it later but right now here is this piece
