It's that time of year again! I know, I know, it's October. But it's time for signups. You sign up now, I assign names in November, and we mail by Dec 1st, at least ideally. The last three years have been great, so I'm looking forward to this Christmas!

This is all honor based. Over the years we've had people fink out who were new and veterans. And, every year there are mix ups at the post office, last minute changes of address, out of town artists, etc. So, I'm not strict about post counts or skill level. Just be able to make something that someone else would appreciate. The only rule is that it be hand-made. Other than that, everyone should add in their PM what they would like to get - some kind of suggestions or such. It makes it easier for the artist to plan what they'll make. And, once you get your gift, be sure to post a photo of it here in this thread, so we can all appreciate it.

It's been common in the past but it's not expected. One nice thing about us being an international community is we do have unique treats from around the world. I might add some Slovak chocolate this year. We'll see.

Personally I'd go to your local post office and ask general shipping prices around the globe, and take the size of the package into consideration when designing your part.

Indeed. Get a quote first peeps. For people outside the states (like me) I'd suggest personally thinking practically and creatively
when it comes to what's in the package. You don't want to skimp on shipping, but you dont want to break the bank either.

Your mileage may vary, but if it's a drawing on paper in, say, a stiff cardboard envelope or similar, it should ship safely and not be TOO hideously expensive for international shipping, at least in my experience shipping a couple of drawings from the U.S. to Europe... Though the delivery time could be forever, especially around the holidays. (Someone once mailed me a drawing from Finland to the U.S. and it took nearly two months. But blizzards and Christmas were involved.)

The sign up deadline is Nov 1st. QueenGwenevere explained it perfectly. None of us want to spend too much money on this. Average total expenditure shouldn't be more than say 15$. I always do something on paper, about A4 size and I ship it first class air mail. It costs me about €7. The trick is to finish and mail the work quickly enough that it actually arrives on time.

Skipped last year due to wedding craziness, but I'll definitely be back in this year. It's abundantly awesome to get someone's art in the mail, and I can say I have artwork hanging in Germany and the US. @;-D

It's almost time for me to send out names of recipients. Just a few days left. So, now's your last chance for anyone to either sign up or reconsider and sign out. Think whether you're going to have time to devote to art making in the next month. I know for me it's going to be tricky. Work's piling up, and I want to do a series of portraits for a school exhibit. But I'll try and make this happen. It'd be nice to see more people participate.
