Critiquing on Anatomy/Proportions?

Yeah, that was the thread. could be valid. Just wondering as I've seen legs on people so out of whack short but I totally agree with what star eater and some others said, it depends on the image itself and context. Just there the shortness looked OK to me.

I didn't see anything wrong in those characters. Guys tend to have longer torsos and shorter legs in proportion to girls. I thought they looked proportionally more real than the idealised versions we often see.

I think the decent rendering in those pictures does a lot
to glance over some of the flaws, but that last image especially
seems to be suffering from classic photo perspective bugs.

I would have to agree that some of the characters are out of proportion. If you measure from where the midpoint of the body at the crotch is and compare the top and bottom halves, the top half of the body is too long on some of the characters, especially the last one. Even with people who have long legs or long torsos or what have you, the top and bottom halves of the body should be just about equal. I hope my phrasing makes sense.

Just a thought, but shouldn't you all be putting these more specific crits in the original critique thread itself? They might do more good there...

While this sounds like the setup to a joke that needs rimshot.

I saw two men walking down the street. Both were the same height but one looked taller than the other. One guy seemed to have a longer torso with shorter legs, the other seemed to have a shorter torso with longer legs.

The pants line also caused this issue. One guy wore his pants up higher than the other and tucked them in. The other guy wore a shirt that gave him a longer looking torso.

Of course you also have guys like this..

Yes, but I think the torso is too big, not that the legs are short... Maybe I'm wrog, idk.

The arm(s) is what popped out at me. Trace the Archer chicks arm down to her side, it would be near her knees. Seems like a valid crit to me.

Traces pretty fine to me. Though the other arm's forearm appears short.

This has turned out to be an interesting debate! Thank-you to those who took the time to look at my drawings--though I can't help but feel a little embarrassed at the scrutiny.

First of all, I'd like to say that any proportional issues were unintentional and in error on my part. The last image was actually my first serious digital image, and one of the only ones that I used specific photo reference for. I think it was actually more of a perspective issue than an anatomy one, but either way it's off. I thought the proportion on some of them was good (Link, the second one (Star Wars alien guy), and the knight further down), but I can definitely see the flaws irregardless.

Secondly, I appreciate any feedback whether I agree completely with it or not. Critique is by its very nature subjective, but it's the additional point of view that is helpful. I wish I could get more critiques, but I'm not sure how to draw more people into my sketchbook without just being a better artist, lol. I have received very good critiques on my sketchbook, so I'm not complaining necessarily.

But thanks again, and any more feedback or help or resources given will be most greatly appreciated (more than you can know).
