Concept: Cancerous Beast

Soulless, full of rage, its body a twisted mass of pain and agony, this horrid creature lives only to spread its own misery through the lives of others. It's body, always growing and changing, eventually spits out its spored relatives tearing and dividing the flesh until there is nothing left of the original except for the horrific wailing of a true beast. Each piece of the body will follow the same process, making these piteous creatures a perfect soldier in Hell's army.

Concept: Great Irregular Crab

The systems which regulate the growth of an irregular crab are very different from those in most other creatures. In times when food is plentiful, the growth of any new organs or tissue is only regulated when it begins to interfere with the operation of other nearby organs. At the same time, organs and tissues which go unused quickly atrophy and disappear. The result is an assortment of redundant and vestigial features, chaotic and sickly in appearance but surprisingly efficient in operation. The 'randomness' of a specimen's body plan is often a good indicator of age, and young irregular crabs are frequently mistaken for large crabs of other species. Any two specimens may have a vastly different set of appendages, yet nearly all naturally grown limbs are fully functional and quite strong. As a result, most irregular crabs are far more gainly than they initially appear, and can often move very quickly with their own unique, lopsided sort of gallop. Despite this, they usually move quite sluggishly in order to conserve energy.

Not exactly your regular horoscope cancer. It's a nasty thing that floats around and plans to replace all the other zodiacs by infecting them with its little tumors.

Concept: Chaotic Astral Vibration; Cancer

Found in certain rifts within the oceanic astral realms, Cancer is a relatively new vibration. This mutation of energy is chaotic in nature. Flowing in and out of the second and third of the lower planes, Cancer gathers in huge numbers to distort the local vibrations of the dimensional fabric. Currently Cancer seems increasingly drawn to Gaia due to the entity's chaotic transition into higher vibrations. They prey on the spirit strings of light-energy that connect all living beings to the higher realms and are especially fond of human heart-energy. They will latch on to a target and slowly begin to sap the spiritual flow. If enough Cancers gather on the same string the vibration will become so distorted that disease will manifest itself physically and spread. On Earth, Cancer is also karmic in nature, drawn to either certain soul-families or individual souls to speed up their transition to the higher realms. It acts as an awakener and gives them an opportunity to find very powerful light-vibrations while still in their current incarnation, speeding up a process that otherwise would take many cycles.

I was impressed by all the entries. I was not sure which to vote for until I reached the end; D.V.'s entry was a clear choice for me. It clearly captured the brief this round.
