Teen Challenge 178: The Broadsword and the Beast - Extended Deadline

Teen Challenge 178: The Broadsword and the Beast

    Topic
This week's topic is The Broadsword and the Beast. Time to pull out some nice fantasy stuff here

    Focus
This weeks focus is story. Try to hint at some sort of a backstory or event that is going on in the picture. I want more than just a pretty picture--I want a pretty picture with some depth to it.

    Deadline

THE DEADLINE IS EXTENDED TO SUNDAY THE 30TH OF SEPTEMBER, 23:59 GMT

Hehe this is fun! This image started off in my head with a horse, but I felt some woolly rhino thing better fit the theme. I should probably add some armour or a saddle or something to it though. This theme is a lot of fun for me--a whole bunch of ideas come to mind from it, and I may even do some sketches for other concepts.

Anyways, here's a thumbnail and a colour rough. Kinda liking it so far, though there are a lot of issues to still resolve before I get to rendering (IF I do decide to finish it). And of course if I do decide to take it further I better find me some reference! Hopefully it isn't too dark on your screens (the one I'm using now makes all the darks appear little lighter than they should be).

My apologies to everyone for the confusion in terms of the deadline. The forums seem to be in working order now once again, so we can get this underway. In order for everyone to have time to see that this is up and running, and for those that didn't see the topic due to the forums being down, I have extended the deadline for another week.

Once again, my apologies for the delay in this!

Not so scarry tree wood monster grill, not gonna continue with this one...

EDIT: Oh shit the theme is BEAST not MONSTER... Is a tree monster girl-ish thing considered a beast?

Oh and Ffanatic I think GIFs are accepted but keep in mind that gifs can only contain 256 colors.

Ffanatic: Sorry for taking a few days to get back to you here. I'm in California (I live in Ottawa, so it's pretty far for me!) right now for an art workshop so haven't had much time for internet and Aksel is also out of town right now so can't really access the forums. Anyways, to answer your question, I won't accept a GIF if it is animated, no. The purpose of the challenge is to do a painting, a single image. An animation does not fit this and would not be fair to enter in a competition like this as it is not the same type of entry and will make voting difficult as it is not comparable to a still image.
