DAWs and homemade music

I was wondering if there's anyone on here who has made their own music? If anyone has any other DAW suggestions, songs, or whatnot; I would like to see them. Currently, I have ACID 6.0 and Linux Multimedia Studio 0.4.13, but am open to other suggestions.

I use Cubase sx 3 still, its an old one but i know my way around it well. I know a lot of people that like sonar better tho, you can do just about anything you want in both. If your looking for something free and simple, reaper is a good choice. I used it for doing small tracks when I didn't wanna load up Cubase and my 50 bazillion plugins/vsts. The ones above you can do your drums are other instruments in the single program but if you like using something like fruity loops or reason 3.0 then adobe audition might be a good choice.

For mixing and mastering you cant go wrong with any of the waves bundles but also sonar and cubase come with pretty good EQ and reverb effects built in.

Ah, okay, now I'm beginning to see what the thread is about - Cubase is well known enough that even I know of it. But my idea of "making music" entails playing my guitar, which has actual mechanical strings made of nylon. In the world of modern music, I guess it's pretty much a museum piece. As am I. :-)

Hi, I started a music project lately and using Reaper as the drummer was using it.
I'm pleased with the interface, quite flexible.

I don't do much midi stuff tough, just record my bass.

I can't think of any other DAWs than the standards like Pro Tools and Logic; Cubase and Abelton Live are also great alternatives. Reason 6 is the latest and greatest from Propellerheads that combines it's production features it's been famous for with audio recording and an awesome console for mixing and side-chaining. If you looking for something alot more straightforward, get yourself NI's Maschine. It's DAW has pretty much everything you need like third party plug-in support, but minus recording audio 'cause it's a sequencer basically. Its pad controller is also perfect for production in terms of sampling and programming your own grooves and composing.

I use Ableton Live combined with Reason. So much fun.

Recently had to sell my Midi keyboard and guitar (which I hooked into ableton to get effects), but hopefully I can buy those back soon enough.

I was a stone cold Reason user for years, but now I use Cubase 6.5, NI Komplete suite, Sylenth synth, Reason 6.5, Vienna Ensemble Pro and a whole lot of Orchestral Vst (EWQL, Cinesamples, Audiobros, Project Sam, Cinematic Strings, etc) for music composition now. Check out my horrid (very old now, 8 years or so) productions at:

It's all stuff I did with Reason back in the day when I was a kid. Mostly hip hop and mock filmscores. I recently put them on soundcloud for the remixes I did.

I don't currently have equipment with which to record anything, and my playing is so amateurish I'm not sure I would want to inflict it on anyone. :-)

To Artmessiah: Your classical/orchestral pieces are great for what you did back then.

As for my music, I have a lot of stuff made with ACID's loops, some MIDI stuff that was done with it, and some stuff done with LMMS.

I used Audacity to make a rap song for this song about black magick for this really really good rapper I'm friends with.

oh wow I am never going to live down how bad that turned out.

It was like being one of those people who have never drawn in their life and who try to draw.

I was not willing to listen to Bone-Thugs-In-Harmony every morning for 5 years just to become a really good rapper, as he suggested.

Now I just use Audacity to levitate balls in coils for weird art installations.

Nah, most of the stuff was fairly reasonable, considering what's reasonable for sample libraries. The most expensive sample library I bought was EWQL Symphonic Choir. I now go for the smaller companies that have quality stuff like, Cinematic Strings, Tonehammer, cinesamples, Project Sam and Bela D media. They're sell great products at good prices. The price I pay is not in cash, but in explaining to my wife why I need this stuff, and of course fighting myself on what creatively I want to do more paint or compose.

It can be a daunting thing, but I like the fact that it confirms my thoughts that a great deal of visual artist tend to be fairly decent musicians as well (and vice versa).

I'm glad that people in this thread are brave enough to post some music. To Velderia: What you uploaded onto Bandcamp is pretty cool so far.

By the way, two thing that I have to mention:
A. Reason can be used with Presonus Studio One.
B. LMMS is compatable with .flp files.
