Hello, i'm a 15 year old studying in china and i am going to try to keep a daily digital sketchbook ;d

I am sick of my classmates going like "omg, y u sao gud?" when in truth i suck, suck so much that i haven't even reached the bare basic beginning level, heck i shouldn't even own a tablet. .3.
however, instead of disagreeing with them and starting a whole i compliment you and you compliment me conversation that i absolutely hate, i resolved to not rage at them for being ignorant of the talented artists out there and just thanked them, because in the end, when you disagree, they'll think you're an attention hoar fishing for compliments.. LOL;;
Anyway, i'm really embarrassed to bring my art to this site full of professionals, but in the end like most people here, i want to improve :I so please crit!

i really shouldn't be playing with my tablet now but i want to figure out how to blend on photoshop 8(

and it would be awesome if someone just gave some tips on blending /w\
i think it might be mainly cause my colors suck? so it's rather hard for me to find the color in between and mix them? not sure :I

You can use the lasso tool to select the areas you want to blend and select filter >> blur >> gaussian blur and just slide the radius. hope it helps.

started with some body work. 30 min "class" though for a lot of them i just gave up;; later worked on knees/legs ;d


at night i manned up and drew what i always dread; close up realistic faces, since i suck at them so much. but surprisingly they turned out a lot better than i expected. imo i improved a tad bit from face 1 - face 6.i spent more time on them which is good since i have this problem with being lazy and just moving on without finalizing stuff :d

i need to learn how to shade 8( and learn the values and have a proper contrast orzz;;

ah o: thanks. do you have another way without using filters? imo filters are kind of a way to cheat? i suppose for final pieces you could use it if you wanted to, but for a learning process it probably won't help anyone to trainup their blending skills : D thanks though!

You can use the soft edge brush, or the blur tool, which are the easiest ways, or you can keep using the hard round brush.

Good start, I'm really liking your poses! Keep it up with the face practice, it's pretty cool how it looks like there's been some improvement already.
For blending, try using a lower opacity tool (for smooth transitions I keep it around 30 - 40%) and use the eyedropper to pick color.

etchpea; ooh 30-40 percent, okay. thanks! my friend also mentioned to change the flow of the brush. so hopefully altogether it'll somehow work out ;d

Hey man, great to see young people studying! Maybe you should take a look at some skulls and apply that to your portraits. And yeah work on the blending, as has been said!

wasn't feeling really motivated today 8( i think i need to stop expecting so much out of myself, which is probably why i stopped drawing for a while 8D;; i get depressed about how badly i draw, and don't convert it into motivation which is terrible :/
imma try harder tomorrow. i was actually tempted to save the update for tomorrow and add a lot more artwork, but i think updating it daily no matter how much i drew or what i drew is important :d sorry for the boring posts lool, learning is a boring process sometimes : D

took me a while to get my butt on the seat, hands on a pencil, and my mind set on drawing 8( but i did anyway so, whoo : D
going to work more on faces tonight and get started on coloring/blending, i'll try and practice some bgs as well ;d

:T all i did last night was draw an extra face and paint a pear 8( rather disappointing.. i tried painting a bg, but i realized that i didn't know where to start and imo it would be a good idea for me to first get used to painting and then transition into backgrounds ;d


i'll upload the face some other time but here is a pear and an apple : D i was busy the whole day and i could only fit an apple in the morning, got started on an onion but i didn't have time to finish. if i draw more tonight i'll update 2morrow /w\

i feel like i have been posting less and less .__. fjdklfdl i need to spend more time on art >8U but for the next couple of days i probably won't be able to get much in. have all of this hw that i forgot to do 8DD;; anyway just ended up doing the 30 min class thing online && finishing my onion which tbh was completely halfassed.. i seriously need to man up :/ tried doing some face studies but too tired to concentrate properly :/

You're only 15? Wow man, you're really good for your age, keep up the good work! You need to look at positive/negative space more, and pay close attention to the angles!

thanks for the comment! i did some positive/negative space practice on posemaniacs so hopefully that'll get me started. i never knew they had an exercise for that o;

anywayy, this week imma be a bit busy D; school started and been having some problems with my chinese teacher and this F i got for participation :/ which tbh everyone else got full marks and it's only cause i was fawking late. though i admit it was pretty bad but seriously? not enough for a F D8< sorry LOL shouldn't rage on an art forum!

so, stuff from yesterday and today, tbh i barely drew just some 30s poses and doodling on the tablet :/

hokay. i'm really sorry but i literally spent all my free time yesterday doing homework .__. woke up 5 am in the morning to finish it and i'm still not doneee /A// school starts in about an hour so i quickly doodled something to keep this daily. technically. this counts as yesterday

well i made some time for art today since yesterday i could't get anything in ;d && the project that was supposed to be due tomorrow got delayed so it means more time to draw and breathe : D

did an hour "class" study here; i find it rather useful.
then tried doing a face using some of the painting practice i did. i ended up only detailing in the eye area. LOL. and i probably won't bother finishing this.

i keep having this problem where when i paint i lose my lines so in the end everything is out of proportions :I does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? or is this just a practice thing?

QQ i want to draw more daily but dkfjdlfdl not enough time >8U why didn't i draw more during break ; ; i'm pushing my homework back just so i could draw nowadays, or waiting till i'm too tired to focus on homework then draw, which makes it hard to focus on drawing :I

kdfjld was too tired to finish the 30 min warmup thing, tried doing studies. ended up doodling most of it .__. was thinking i could try practicing the hands more so i can draw in class while looking at my hands :V

wish i could find a time when i'm am awake and able to focus on drawing faces and studies :/

dkfjdlfdl could only draw at school today. we were supposed to work on our projects but i took some time out to do some hand practice, thought it would be awkward if i did face/body since most of the pics/websites i had were NSFW .3.

thursday is my most busiest day, right after school i have MUN from 3;30-6;00, 6;00-7;00 math class and 7;00-9;00 youth group, 9;00+ homework :/ have an english comparison essay for poetry 2morrow OTL. been working on that.

going to try and wake up early 2morrow to finish english and if possible have some time to draw! : D

dkjfld this sucks 8( didn't have time to work on art today either and probably wouldn't have time tomorrow too. if i get all my homework done by tomorrow i could probably spend the whole afternoon drawing :I sorry for the terrible posts but i feel like if i stop posting and wait for one day to post everything i'll just end up procrastinating and giving up on this sketchbook. so for now bear with me ;u;


i also finally installed my printer/scanner's driver, so hopefully if i'm not lazy, i'll stop taking pics via my sis's iphone cam or my macbook's cam .__.

whooo, it's been two weeks since i started this sketchbook ;d i feel like i haven't improved at all but that's probably cause i'm not spending enough time drawing :T




i started off with 30 s gestures and then it took me around 45 mins to draw the face :I so many things wrong with the face @A@ by the way, for gestures, what are you supposed to focus on? i keep feeling like i'm spending too much time working on the frame and getting it all proportionally correct.. .3.

this was done with memory. turns out my orange screen tint thing was on when i painted this, so the colors don't look as good but nonetheless you get the point ;d
