    The start of a Journey...

    .. and not exactly the best one, but just some sketches from Loomis studies I did tonight. Feedback, crits, thoughts and what not are all very much appreciated!

    Hope everything went right but CA is a bit slow for me atm so didn't really have time to re-check the guidelines threads (excuses,excuses).

    Anyway, cya tomorrow for some more updates! Facta Non Verba!

    So here's the first update with some quick head doodles, from head. Tried doing em just with the brush tool and nothing else, as I find myself undo-ing a lot lately, and I want to get rid of that habit. It sortof kills the 'looseness'. And it is just plain retarded when you find yourself searching for the keyboard while you're sketching in a sketchbook

    More (hopefully interesting) stuff coming up soon..ish!

    A value study from photo ref. Not confident with colours AT ALL yet so for now just sticking with greyscales.
    Same goes for value itself tbh.. anyhow don't think I'll finish it though I find rendering quite hard, as I tend to mess up my values quite a bit in the process, so a little practice wouldn't hurt.
    Yet it somehow feels like wasting time as the first few steps in a painting seem the most important.. but then again! ANYWAY enough rambling:

    Very nice studies you have! I hear it is very good to start with greyscale first and learn values that way first, and then gradually switch to color. I like the looseness of your very first figure studies at the top. I am interested to see some of your own work! keep going, great work!

    Some Bridgman studies this time. Really fancy his approach! Somehow Loomis' mannequin approach doesn't really work for me (yet).

    Another update. Would like to post more regularly, but y'know.. school

    Anyway here's some landscape 15min paintings done from reference. Still kinda struggling with it so will do these more often.

    Just used a regular hard/soft round brush, cause I'm not really comfortable with using anything other than those brushes just yet..
    Some tips on brushes and when/how to use them (from personal experience) would be much appreciated!

    Next up there's another value study of a woman. This time I tried to finish it up a little more than last time:

    Some perspective/industrial design practice. Used an old VW Golf as reference.
    Actually took me an hour to make, just because I couldn't get my lines straight in one go...

    Examweek and deadlines coming up.. so less time to draw, but will still try to CRAM in atleast one hour of drawing a day
    (which prolly ends right when I realise I'm REALLY behind with my homework.. *cough*)

    I really like the landscapes. They look like they're ready to be filled with color. I'm not experienced with computer aided illustration, but from what I see your geometry looks very useful. Nice studies!

    Wow I really love your lines! They are so clean and clear! I really need to do some greyscale pics too, I'm awful at values. Can't wait to see more, maybe some adventures/practice in colour next? ;D

    @FrogOnAZipline - Thank you!
    @anivy - Thanks! Yea, colour is gonna be the next big leap.. they still scare the crap out of me though!
    As soon as I have some time to really sit down for it I will give it a go. It's all about confidence I guess...

    30 min is all I had today, so I decided to fill 'em up with some Bridgman hand studies

    wow these are amazing! thanks for posting them, i really like the figure studies, the way you render things blows me away, so smooth and silky. How do u do it? is it just different hardness with the brushes? anyway awesome work keep posting

    @Psychobuddy - thanks man
    @Care - Thank you. I normally just start out with a normal hard round with solid value. For rendering I then go in with a soft round brush, using the color picker to blend the values.

    Here are some more 30m value studies from photo reference. One from today, two from a couple of days ago...

    @M-Min - Thanks! very motivating to hear

    Soooo, 2 months later...

    anyway here's a pencil study after one of Robert Liberace's sketches. One of few school assignments that involve (2D) art atm, unfortunately.
    nothing special, just something to remind myself I have to post here more often in the future!... and the last one for 2012 so here's hoping for a healthy and productive (lucky) '13!
