    Aspiring Artist -Smapel's Journey

I'm a 21 year old guy from Sweden. Who's recently decided that's I'd like to get into art seriously. Apart from doodling in school I've not drawn or painted much, or at all. The goal is someday become an illustrator, concept artist or some kind of game designer. I'll try to post something new every day

So here goes; one of todays sketches:

    And older sketch:

Another sketch even quicker than the last one. Middle figure is the best i reckon, put most work into it though.

Nice works so far! Maybe you should try to limit the scribbling though: If you need 200 lines to define one arm, that shows that you are (probably) very unsure of what you're doing. Look up the human skeleton/muscle structure and then do some drawings from life (or photo refs) to practice c:

Those last studies are looking good!
For your scribbly characters, maybe you can make a new layer and go over them with fewer lines?
    Anyways, keep posting '

Currently going through Andrew Loomis: Fun with a pencil. Seemed like a reasonable book to start with. At "Funny Faces" now. Here are some of my creations:

When your pencil strokes are confident they look really good, the head studies in post #10 are a great example of that. In your newest post I definitely like the bearded guy at the bottom best, he looks like a full-fledged character. You draw anything else than people? I'd love to see that too.

    Keep it up, Smapel!

Thank you nouge! Yeah, I kind of rushed through at first - thought I'd get ahead faster. But I realise I should take my time. Haha, yes, beard-guy is my favorite too. I'll try to draw some still life or landscapes some time soon then, totally new too me though

just as mentioned before one thing to practise conciously is line quality draw slowly if some lines seem jaggy or everything check out what it was for example if you have trouble drawing noses eyes whatever practise them a while longer to get comfortable with the topic you are unsure.Gestures also are great to do with charcoal or the side of the pencil to depict mass instead of contour.

My brother wants me to make the cover for his demo. So I'm trying out some stuff. The pose is from some dude with a sword, changed it a bit and the head is obviously my bro and clothing and hair is just imagination. Don't know a whole lot about coloring and shadows etc. keeping it simple for now

@dimi - Thanks! Yes, hopefully it'll come more naturally eventually. Took some time now, layer after layer, perfecting it.

Trying to draw pretty girls. Man! it's hard. Drawing a males you can get away with a few defects it seems. But I don't know ^^

Heey, thanks guys! I just got into an art course as a back-up. Nothing fancy or anything, prior to higher studies at a university or college I suppose But it's a step on long the way.
