    Concept art like this?

I want to draw concept art for my story but I don't know how to draw. I don't know where to start so I thought I'd ask for help here. The types of art I'd like to do are like the ones on this tumblr page. http://fuckyeahconceptart.tumblr.com/

I think it's digital drawing using a drawing tablet or something. Also how to choose colors, adding shadows, lighting and anything else that I'm missing. Thank you for the help in advance.

You need to learn how to draw first. Your second paragraph is well into the future.

    /thread

But you can start your journey now. All you need is pencil and paper. Draw, draw, draw, draw everything and everyone around
you as much as you can. Start a sketchbook here or put some of your stuff up in the critique section.

He's joking. There's books: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...s-Reading-List but there's no magic book or video that will teach you all, it's still going to take years of work. But we get lots of people who just want that one magic thing.

There are no books or videos on the subject of art. Unfortunately. This is a great shame for all of us and why we invented CA. Don't worry about he things you see in your head - they are best left unseen.

If you are serious, I'd recommend going to a drawing/life class with a teacher who is able to prove they can walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
Generally, all 'how to' books do more harm than good and should be placed in the bin or better, burned.
Those I could recommend as a start are by Charles Reid.

I'm not looking for any magic shortcuts, I know it takes hard work to be able to draw the things I'd like to draw, but thanks for your help, I guess I'll just keep drawing random things until i get better.

Mix it up, draw as much as you can, have fun with it, but if you want to improve -real- fast. Draw from life, its repeated so often because it works.

funny how "where can i find any information on that" became "which information is not bs out of this huge pile" within only 15 years. made me realize how much i appreciate what the internet has made possible, compared to younger generations.

Yeah. It's also made me realize how research-challenged some portions of the younger generations are. I should start charging for looking shit up on Google.

Before you can paint epic dragons you have to be able to paint coffee cup . Start a sketchbook so you can get some feedback, and draw a lot.

i can honestly say that learning from life is the best source.
like in maths you have to learn the formula before working out the volume of the pyramid of Giza, its the same in art.
just practise by drawing the things you can see, have fun trying to make it look as realistic as possible and you will learn so much on your own eventually it will be easy for you to draw from your head (references never hurt either ) but just draw, have fun, and always be willing to learn from those around you.

Yep, the only way to draw things like that is to learn how to draw. Be warned in advance that this will take many, many years. And it will not be easy. And you've got to be prepared to spend a ludicrous amount of time drawing badly before you can draw well.

However, if you really seriously want to learn to draw, some things that can help you get started are:
Books from the reading list here: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...s-Reading-List
Spartan Boot Camp exercises in the community activities section here: http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdi...ITY-ACTIVITIES
Information on basics in the Fine Art section here: http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdi...hp?7-FINE-ARTS
And in the tips-and-tutorials section here: http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdi...IPS-amp-TRICKS
And there's some good info on these blogs:
    http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/
    http://ennisart.blogspot.com/

Or if you're really committed, you could take some classes.

But the most important thing is drawing, drawing, drawing. Especially from life. All the books and classes and tutorials in the world will accomplish nothing if you don't actually draw. Draw a lot, and post it in a sketchbook thread for feedback if you want.
