DAY 6. First Attempt At Aliens (1 hr 25 Minutes)

....Yeah. Please rip this to shreds, lol; aliens and grotesque monsters are a foreign area for me that I'd really like to tackle.

There is truly a great deal of life and character here. You've really got a way of putting energy and vibrance into things. I think that is due in part to your bold color choices. Love your stuff.

Absolutely loving your stuff. I am floored you are so young!! You obviously have a firm grasp of color and light, it is enviable!

Your characters have SO much personality... so much narrative in such simple images. The one of the dude with the mullet and the cat literally made me laugh out loud. And the ewok... oh the ewok.

I predict a giant in our midsts.

DAY 7. What is Sleep? (50 Minutes)

Nothing new art-wise. But this pretty much describes how insane I’ve been (and am right now). I’ve been a night owl and a morning bird cause of animation school and juggling concept art on the side. I pull about 2-3 all nighters a week. Ughhhh, end of semester is drawing near.

    Pokedex Render.

The Mesh is kinda bad to be honest.

(Making a list of stuff I have trouble with/ need to confront when my break comes along)

    Art

    1. Keep a sketchbook going. Try not to throw it out after making a bad drawing. I have a legit OCD, I'm not even kidding, I can't write notes cause I'm too busy trying to make my handwriting perfect.
    2. Try things outside of my comfort zone of cutesy animals.
    3. Have actual portfolio worthy work. Possibly get an internship in visual development or storyboarding.
    4. Make poses more dynamic and maintain a better silhouette. Study gestures in real life.
    5. Practice the hell out of storyboarding by studying camera shots, expressions, acting, story etc.
    6. Anatomy. Human. Friggin. Anatomy. I will FIGURE YOU OUT, DAMNIT. And then I'll make paintings that involve humans for once.
    7. Study from the masters; re-create classical stuff via digital and oil paints.
    8. Learn how to use those damn oil paints that are collecting dust. Possibly watercolors as well.
    9. Learn better perspective. Try city-scapes and mechanical stuffs.
    10. Focus on realism for paintings, like: realistic monsters, fantasy humans, ENVIRONMENTS (I especially need the last one)

Any suggestions as to what else I should be focusing/ improving on? I'm not in an illustration program, so I'm kind of confused as to what they usually focus on. I'd sure appreciate it :>

    Animation
    1. Stop sucking at everything.

DAY 10. Generic Dinosaur (45 Minutes)

No comment, really last minute. I got a lot of adrenalin pumping when trying to meet the 12: deadline. Usually I'm fine if it's the middle of the day, but daaaamn if I get to 11: without having anything done I usually freak the hell out and produce randomsauce.

    Friggin over-saturated mess, lol.

I'd post the animation I was working on all day, but I dunno if that's alright considering this is a sketchbook fourm.

perhaps the human figure is your weakness, but i dont think that s such a bad thing. because for so many, humans are their strength. we all have something to share with the world and i really like your creatures. so dont feel down, feel up and keep up the good work!

    WIP...very WIP.

Hey guys. I'm pretty stuck, heh. I've gotta do a sculpey project using a character that I've created (I have the model sheet for this, but I forgot my harddrive at school so I'll post it soon). I was wondering if anyone knew which stage I had to bake this at? Looks like crap.

DAY 15. Digimon OC (45 Minutes)

On a more serious note, semester is coming to a close next Monday. Not gonna let this break pass through my fingers, I will force myself to improve drastically. There is an opening for an anatomy course at Studio Technique Montreal and I really think I should take it, but I'm a complete novice when it comes to on-site life drawing :/ I got a good grade in it two semesters ago, but I'm very far behind --I dunno if I should wait and hone my skills from personal studies.

I know some people mentioned that not fully grasping how to paint humans isn't a big deal, and while I very much appreciate the comments, I must respectfully disagree. I think not being able to paint decent looking humans is a huge draw-back, so many ideas can't be realized. I've really got to understand it from a fundamental level --I skipped quite a few steps.

Okay, so my first 'real' sculpey experience wasn't too painful. Still an area that I've gotta refine though (you need to know this if you wanna be a character designer, right?) --In any case, I didn't use the old model sheet I made for this character, it was plain and stupid looking. I made an entirely new model sheet, although it was sorta unfinished, so I want to spruce it up before posting it.

T'was done pretty much last minute, which is kind of a shame. I would have liked to fix several things.

Okay, so the daily haul for the past two days has pretty much been meh. Aaaaand I'm sure the following two days will be even meh'er. I'm struggling big time with my animation program and I do NOT want to fail. Cause if I do I'm beyond screwed.

your work is soo nice and colorful!

p.s I recommend you try sculpting in firm super sculpey (gray) its slightly easier to work with and you can get the forms a bit easier due to the consistency of it! Keep up the work
