    Cyrus' Sketchbook

Wow, it's been awhile. All I have to say is I wish I'd been drawing more, but let's go ahead and change that, shall we?

Just a few partial studies in Photoshop for now. I really need to work on everything it seems like, so critiques are very welcome!

Some quick profile studies from observation with some stuff from my head thrown in between. Putting up the good with the bad.

Good start! I would say, really try and push your levels of contrast though. Like this. Don't be afraid to go too black in certain areas.

Thanks Mr.Ebony. I'd heard that before but just hadn't applied it for some reason.

I started darker as I was doing a few practice sketches from reference and think that one suggestion helped quite a bit:

A few heads from imagination. I need to work on keeping things symmetrical, especially around the eyes.

i love it. your faces are great and nice rendering (:i would just say to add the cranium in the back of the head, the ball shape is great for the simplification of the head but the actual back of the head extends out, kinda like a rectangular prism. haha kinda hard to discribe. but just look at imagery of real heads and skulls and compare (:

That last figure study you done looks really nice, the pushed contrast makes it really stand out. Keep posting! =]
It's not who I am underneath, but what I DO that defines me

Hallowtreez: Thanks! And I completely understand what you're talking about; I suppose I focus on the front side too much sometimes.

V3T: It does help a lot, yes! It seems like I've only realized how important values are, or maybe I just have been afraid to try. Probably both.

M.Calza: Thank you. Lines are more in my comfort zone, so I should probably be focusing on things like value though, haha. As for traditional stuff, I'd have to find a scanner for those.

Here are some studies, notes, and random stuff from my head here and there which suggests that I should be doing much more of the prior. I've been trying to make sure I push the values more in most of these.

Some of these are fantastic! Even though I agree with the previous poster who encouraged you to push levels, I found your initial lighter pieces eerily beautiful. It makes me want to try them out myself! Thank you for my much needed inspiration! Subbed

Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
