    Mashach's Sketch Book

Hey everyone! I'm new to conceptart.org. A brief intro. I am a self taught comic/concept art illustrator. started my career in the arts as an IB/Clean up artist. Quit the job & around 2004 (after an unsuccessful years hunt for employment) started taking small commissions for the ad industry and stuck to freelancing after being well received with regular clients. Around 2008 i decided to pursue my love for comic illustration, only to find my self rejected by one of India’s best studio. To quote em, they said,” I lacked the skills & my lines were too rigid ”, they were right! So i decided to summons a few demons, hone my skills & master the art! Within a span of 2 years i found myself a gig for a small indie film maker, where i currently head the art department for their upcoming film & its graphic novel! At the threshold of 2012 i decided to take up digital painting, after watching an artist named Marta Dahlig paint! So, most of what you will see here is stuff i’ve conjured from around 2011. Will try to post here regularly. I hope you like what you see here, let me know your thoughts. So, to begin with here are a few studies, wip's & thumbnails from my sketchbook...

Xamllew : Thank you! Yep. I like the study too. Was also trying to see how well i could sketch with a pen, cos it had been a while! Drew the first head from memory...so you can see its not all that right compared to the others!

Eclipse : Thank you! You'll get there, keep pushing...not that i'm there yet!

So here are a few mighty quick sketches.

I just want to roll around in that mouth and squish the pinkyness! These creatures are fantastic! Very clean looking to me, but my work is messy messy haha. I also really like the bone study- the textures/light are done really well. I love the lines on the figure studies as well! More more moreee

Your line art is so very delicious, and wicked monsters to boot. To improve your painting I suggest practicing watercolour or gouache - since they're unforgiving mediums they really help to organize the painting process in our minds, at least for me it does. Wish you the best!

@ rumpenstiltzkin : Thank you! Here are some surprisingly cutesy stuff i also do!

@ JiR : Thank you very much! Im working on it...

@ Shiftshaper : I was thinking the same, but all the work on the gn leaves me with no time for study or practice these days.

@ MrWolf : Thank you buddy! I'm sure you will as long as you keep at it. Maybe i should share some crappy stuff from 2008 to show you where i stood, just to inspire you.

Thank you once again peeps for taking time to visit & comment, really appreciate it.

So, thought i'd share stuff i did before i became a born again concept artist!

@ Ainuwolf : hehe. Thank you dude!

Some quick thumbnails & sketches. Every once in a while a pose or layout churns in my head i quickly lay em down. I have hoards of these in my sketch book! I will use potential ones for future paintings and tweak them as i start work on them (for example, i might change the villain from the first image with a dragon or whatever would suit the character, layout better). Not necessary the best way to go about it, but these are all done from imagination without any reference whatsoever at this stage, but i will use reference as i go into detail. So, will have to wait & see how these turn out...hope you like these for now!
