Chudds Fourth Shindig - June 15th

Well Well.. its been a while but im back at it again.

I went through a phase of deciding i was going to be an elementary teacher instead of a designer or illustrator and.. i still want to do the teaching thing.. but i missed drawing and i still strive to get better so I am returning.

For those of you who dont know im 17 and a rising senior in high school. I am also recently appointed president of NAHS for next year for our school's chapter yeah biatch.

Anywho this post is what i have from last night. enjoy.

A darling little boy that i liked the outcome of.. and then did the older guy from the Drah'n #5 with my eyes half shut from sleep deprivation. Have an excellent evening - much love - ry

    3 more studies.

The small one looks better scanned.

the bottom face i was dissatisfied with but realized it was the cheek around the tip of the nose throwing it the most off..

the one on the right i did during regular awake hours.. so it was better.. but after scanning the eye is a lil high and to the right.. and the cheek just goes.. nowhere really.. i meant for it to end darker up to the hair.. but i lacked on the hair.. so yea.

Good to see the freshness. keep drawing and post us with what youre doing!

hey man go for teaching if thats your thing. dont forget to draw though, in that kind of teachers university they do mostly theory and the whole "artsy" experiment in various areas that you know generally all art mediums but cant be skilled in any of them because you are only introduced!

sorry if that last paragraph made no sense i am going to bed now

    Keep drawing for sure

Cool, chud! Also, about the girl on the bottom. Above the eye, I think that is sticking out a bit too much.

    Keep going!

looking good but about the bottom one on the 1st sketch: the bridge on his nose looks a bit peculiar (that line in the middle of it (fold) really sticks out with the whole rest of the head shaded), and the middle of the three lines on the cheek ive never seen before on any human...though I have just never seen anyone with that fold before

Excellent, chud. You can definitely see you are getting better with placement of the features, etc.

One problem I see that you will want to correct at some point is the way you are tackling the eyes. You seem to be drawing an oval shape and creatingan eye out of it. I use to do this too, but then I figured out the drawing what you *see* axiom. The eye rarely shows us anything in the way of *line*. It's better to use shading to build up the areas and encase the eye. Remember the eye is a sphere located in a socket buried within the skull.

    Hope that helps!

van true. my eyes arent.. deeply thought over..

started to try a diff techinique in these.. but um these are too small for my own good.. next page will be something big and more confident.. and i added on a quick contour line.. just to see what would come of it. not nearly as bad as when i tried it 3 years ago. take care - ry

Hey! Your works really good, I was quite impressed! If I could recommend anything it would be to visit www.portrait-artist.org - it's a fantastic website, specialises in facial features, proportions, figure sketching etc. It's actually the reason why I got into art in the first place! So yeah, if you have time check that out, cos it rules!
I was glad to see when I got on here (I'm a newbie, you may have guessed :o) ) how many people keep sketchbooks. It's quite reassuring cos I take mine everywhere and yet I know nobody else who does *laughs* so yeh! Thanks for that!
