"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

This concept sounds cool and hopefully I can finish on time for this one. I did 4 sketches with the idea of the character more leaned toward assassin but wasn't liking the feel of some of them so I did 4 more after looking at some photo refs of executioners. I'm thinking of combining 4&5 to some degree.
curious set of works. This will be my first chow, here's how my dm looks so far.

I'll try to make this my first Chow, since I find the topic interesting.
Did some quick sketches for ideas. Leaning towards #4, but I'll probably mix and match a bit from all the designs.
Good work, everyone!

Blocking in, putting down colours, trying to get the lighting right.
Late start for me this time around.
Mine, I reckon, was originally a foreign assassin that snook in pretending he was an entertainer of sorts. Obviously he was caught, and forced into eternal service to the royal family for his attempts on the royal's life. He had his insides taken out whilst he still lived and was mummified to preserve his flesh.
He likes giving people similar treatment to what he had, only his years of work have honed his skills. He carries with him instruments for extraction, along with many liquids that either embalm, agonise, or cause unpleasant physical sensations.

Meh.. had work to do and didn't finish last time. I've tried to get a good sketch going so I can get an early start on painting this time! Here's my "dungeon master" so far. He's the old monarch's former trusted adviser-mystic who bit off more than he could chew in an attempted coup. He's now an undead monstrosity who symbiotically feels pain from nearby living creatures. Since he has no nerves of his own and pain is all he can feel he has become a single minded torture machine!
Added weird demonic legs and arm. That's fun to draw![]()

think i have a pose but im finding a bit difficult to get the colors
Great job everyone, looking great!
Alexanderjr those thumbs are wonderful!
Heres my undead guy. Didn´t make any sketches, so now I´m desperately trying to finish the legs, damn ;D
Here is my start to this fine subject.
Those are some really cool ideas people and some great execution and i spotted some killer composition in one.
I guess Ill play too.
My character's story is that he swears he never tried to poison anyone, the queen seduced him and he was forced to kill and torture to stay alive because of it. His formerly beautiful body is now rotting and held together with metal pieces/ rings..he willbe covered in the blood of those he tortures and executes

I think the most scarring undead dude I've seen in films is the Tar man from the 1980's return of the living dead. When that dude came out from under the stairs in that film, my 10 year old brain blew a fuse.
Love me some 80's horror flicks.
keep the filth masters flowing.
Wow, Bnoch! I am loving your render so far. The dungeon master is particularly gruesome and the crows are a nice touch. My only question is where is he at? I only ask because the background right now looks like he is on a battlefield rather than in a dungeon. Great work.
Some very wicked entries
Update...
I dropped in a background and hit him with some basic colors. Now comes the fun part!!!
No doubt TARMAN is the best undead ever. Brraains , more brains.
Here comes my WIP:

Hello everybody, New to CHoW!
Here goes!
Used Alchemy for some starter ideas
this stuffs really abstract and preliminary.
I definitely want to incorporate these concepts:
-Sasori from Naruto's initial scorpion tail suit. minus the tail as a weapon, but mostly that whole big fat cloak with a buncha stuff going on underneath.
- Fixit from Teen Titans the Cyborg-centric episode. sidenote: I loved this episode it was bone chilling when you see under Fixit's cloak and that is what I want here with the Undead DM.
A combo of the Sasori suit and Fixit's horrifying biological mess.
Incorporating weapons and DM accessories of course.
Later todayGettin there!!!
leaky pen and not so good camera to PS skills

I'm not very happy with how this is at the moment, but I like my concept. Instead of weapons he uses poisonous fungi to keep his wards in check, torturing the mind and the body. He grows the fungi on his body, and it serves a double purpose of keeping his body together.
I think I start over design wise and give it another go.
I really love the shape of your character, Howie.
If you have the time, please stop by my sketchbook, Chock Full o'Nuts.
I would appreciate any advice or critiques.
I don't think I'll do a front and back so no going to final but I did finish the character to some degree was having trouble because I was convincing myself the character isn't unique enough but here it is all nice and lit. I'm glad I tried tho learned a few things I need to work on.
Nice work from everyone so far. I managed to get some work done today, here's where it's at. I'll fix some issues tomorrow and start rendering a bit tighter.

Whoo hoo what a great topic! Great to see everyone coming out!
@Spellsword
I really like the way the expression and the feel of the character is going, but I really want to see you push the "undead" element of the character like you talked about in your first post. That giant arm, while cool, seems kind of "monster" right now. Love where this is going.
@Spastic_Potato
Your character is hilarious. He looks like he's about to plotz and he's just got this tiny little axe. Hee hee.
@Kiba
I LOVE your linework.
@Howie
Excellent concept, one of my favorite so far.
@PITCHBLACK
Your description is really intriguing as it adds another layer of depth to the brief. I like the rotting/stiched-together aspect, but how can you show (through character design) that he was framed? A challenge indeed!
Bnoch
Just... stop it.
@Sporus
I like the references you've used. As for your later sketches, I am going with the middle ones as my favorites. I'm especially partial to that massive scythe-wielding dude.
So as for me... I have no idea where I'm going with this, or rather, I have no idea which way I'm going with this. Definitely going to need some feedback here CA. Right now I am leaning towards either 1, 4, or 5, but I would love some input so I can jump into this quickly (since I'm somewhat tardy to the party).
Let me know what you think!

Can't fault a man who loves his job.
In other news, kind of blown away by all the other designs here. Brilliant stuff, guys. Seriously. Can't wait to see them finished.
