Okay heres a quick drawing and suggestion for a world theme.

    Name: Idea-suggestion-shattered-world_fatasy.jpg

In a shattered world where magic is present, resourses are scarse and
kingdoms must rely on tapping clouds for water. this kingdom is home to a few
thousand people, among these people we find our protagonist and her pet.

if we choose this theme we can either go Steam punk, Dark fantasy, Cute fatasy or the social commentary route. oh and we get to design bitching airships of mass awesomenes

theme was inspired by skyland and last exile

both series were pretty wierd and had cool concepts ... but fell a bit flat story wise

A few quick environment sketches, nothing specific right now, just to try out different moods and color schemes and stuff.

I like the skyland idea by the way!

I personally don't care what the style/theme whatever is, but I would like to come up with an idea of what the guardian is. That's the whole point of the topic right? We don't have to design/draw it, but its the reason all of the other things are the way they are. If its a sentient energy then it could be infused into the land as ley lines, or leaking into the water through rivers, or if we're going futuristic, then networks of energy channels, if its a sky being, then it makes sense for aerial cities so that they can be protected better, if its a giant mole, then we have caverns that are connected by mole highways, or a volcano type setup of some sort that maintains a protective field and so on. We've already got some awesome art, but to be honest it looks like we're regurgitating cliches. Cliches get to be that way because a) the idea is awesome and b) the make a certain amount of sense and we can totally use them, but picking and choosing and making them out own with thought is important I think.

Edit: Why he's guarding is nice to know too.... We just need a base concept so we can avoid painting aimlessly.

I like the team so far. Thank you Pixie for putting it together. Perhaps we could call the team "the 5 deadly cat herders"
Guardian sketches are on the way.

I'm sort of banging out a scattershot here. Let me make this clear, these are not meant to look pretty, these are random ideas that passed through my head. Not sure what you guys like to draw. I just wanted to play with cultures that are close to nature and cross them with western culture.

    The first two are indians.
third is an ottoman protecting a treasure.
fourth is a village on a river.
fifth is a monk protecting dragon eggs.

So I was playing around with one of the ideas from Raoul and made the guardian some sort of indian spirit schaman. The enemy is an organism that corrupts the land and the guardian combats it by releasing his spirit creature which repells the slimy corruption thingy. Just throwing it out there, let me know what you think. The character and creature designs are obviously just placeholders right now.

Let's take a step back and think about art direction. So we can work together as a team.
First things first we should find a style. So each one of us should post our favorite character, creature, environment, industrial design, illustration and comic page. Lets try to find images similar in style. I know it's no easy task, but it will help to get us on the same page. I'll get the ball rolling soon.

Good idea Raoul Duke. Exams are over tomorrow afternoon so I'll actually be producing after I get some recuperative sleep after that. I saw the skype chat from the day or two I've missed and there were some good ideas starting there too.

My favorite thing to do is character design. I like playing with body type, facial features and expressions, body language and creating costumes that tell a story.

It was actually difficult for me to find a good creature design today. I know I've seen some amazing ones but nothing really comes to memory. But I like this one anyways.

Not sure if we could pull off an environment like this, but we can try.

I really like the simplicity of this vignetted design layout

I think a great advantage illustration has is composition. You can really posh some nice graphic design elements.

I love comic layouts. It's pure visual storytelling. This page isn't even in english but you know what it's about.

Incinerated- Glad you posted. I can see you have a taste for delicate rendering and soft lighting. I understand why you have a hard time getting into comics. It's a shitty market. The trash is popular and the treasure isn't.

My internet has been shotty lately, so I might not get skype calls.

Raoul yeah I sampled alot of different stuff comic wise, I just find it a hard genre
    to make choises in favorites.

I would like to do the industrial panels or the environment... Alternately I could
probably manage a comic panel, I have the time.. seems like the biggest job. I guess
    im kinda versatile.

I started modeling a small village on a rock I guess we could use, its a wip but
still, if we want to do the whole floating shattered world thing it could be a huge
help to have a model to stick too... To place scenes in or illutrations

    Edit: image didn't show up

latus-Okay I see you like flashy over the top images. Don't take this the wrong way, but blatantly immature stuff. There is a big market for that.

Incinerated-Glad to see you are comfortable with 3d. That should come in helpful when we need to fix our perspective. The floating windmill is a good idea, but I'm going to be straight with you. It was better in the gorillaz video. But how can you not want to draw that or everything else from every gorillaz video ever made. But if you guys want we could stick with the idea and call it an homage.

This is probably the hardest part right now, to get on common ground with the design and theme. Anyways, here's some of my favorite images. I can't really think of any favorite industrial design or comic panel, so I'm up for whatever you guys want to do with that.

I really couldn't just pick one of each, so here's a few roughly arranged by group (the uploader wouldn't fit the whole image in even two parts so I apologize for the lines through it). I've dumped these and a bunch more in a folder on Dropbox. If I were to pick another person's selections as most aligning with my own I would have to say its yours Raoul Duke. I love a story and emotion (humor's a plus) and as long as an image has that I couldn't give a damn about the style, the more colour the merrier, and though I like details, I would sacrifice them in a heartbeat for the sake of a picture having a truer reading.
