    With a Goal in Sight

    Hi everyone!

I'm one of those lurkers who's been here for a while but never found the courage to actually start one of these things. I guess I've always been a little too selfconscious about my art. Not to mention I have the tendency to get stuck working on details and rarely getting them right, which means I more often than not end up giving up altogether.... Hrm.

I've attended a comics art & illustration college program here in Sweden, but the teachers and courses weren't the best, so I learned more from my classmates than anything else.

What would I like to accomplish by starting this sketchbook?
Well... I'm thinking about attending another art program of some kind, but I'm a little hesitant. I'd have to go abroad since the swedish educations aren't the best, or most varied. In other words, I'd like to improve, of course. A lot.
I have so many things I have to get better at, however, so many that I'm unsure of where to start... But I'm guessing I'll have to start with the sketching, judging from so many other sketchbooks I've had the time to look through on here.

Anyway! To post the first sketches.

First off is a 15 minute doodle in Photoshop I just did, so nothing really fancy. I more or less just wanted something new to start this sketchbook off with. (My stationary computer is sort of dead, so I don't have any art available except these two sketches atm.)

The second is a collarboration; a friend of mine drew the cute cat and I put flat colors on it, then played around with different light sources. I think the result looks kind of interesting. Again, a very quick study, max 2 hours I think.

So, uh, hi! And thanks for taking a look. Constructive, helpful critique is always welcome.

More or less just for fun, haha. I doodled this as an example of a different version of a perspective for a friend and ended up fiddling around with it as we continued talking. I think they turned out sort of cute.

I was once told that I should "dare to draw ugly". So I dared.

(I promise you'll get to see something "real" from me soon and not just halfassed ugliness, I swear.)

I've started going through the long list of really excellent tutorials found in one of the threads here at ConceptArt forums and in one them there was a link to a tutorial on deviantart.com, leading to an introduction to human anatomy. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to read through it all, but I sketched this down while reading the little I read.

I used reference for the arms and torso and looked at halfassed refs for the legs so don't take them too seriously.

So far I've done some life drawing today, plus some still life sketching. I'll only post the life drawing sketches here though.

I've never fully understood how to go about drawing croqui, for example, because I never really understood what to look for, but these last few sketches (and tutorials I looked through) made me realize what I've got to keep an eye open for. I'm not as bad as I first thought!

There'll be more of these, for sure.

Yeah, I'm trying to take some hours every day to draw and actually keep it up as a habit. I'm going to look into doing more 30 and 60 sec sketches tomorrow or so, or perhaps even later today. We'll see what happens!

    Anyways, thanks for commenting.

Some 60 second sketches, which is all I've managed to do today. I've been completely exhausted for some weird reason....

Anyways. I seriously have troubles sketching something up quickly. Thankfully though, I managed to loosen up a bit towards the last sketches, so there's still hope! Hahahaha.

    Hi y'all!

Thought I'd post some quick practice/bored doodles. I'll be posting more later today, just gotta draw some first, haha.
I think it's interesting how, by doing a few 60/30 sec sketches, already get a better grip on the human body when trying to come up with interesting and funny poses. (Not that this is shown here, although the body sketches were done without any references.)

So, back again, with some of today's sketches.

Not a lot of time was spent on any of these, which is pretty obvious, but still.

First out are some 60 second sketches, mostly for warm ups. I think thay're sort of fun to do.
Next out are two sketches I decided to play around with, one being the guy in the post above. Said guy's face is wonky, I'm well aware, he was drawn in, like... ten minutes?

    Anyways, uh... enjoy?

I'm not making any promises (to myself) but I'd really like to get back into drawing again. I seriously miss it.

Used refs for the poses, but not for the horns. 8D
Basically just trying to get back into things.

Lots of things going on in my private life at the moment, which sadly takes up a lot of energy at times. I haven't quite lost my artistic spark yet, though, but it's been pushed far, far back the past few months. Put on the back burner so to speak. Hoping to change that with a new, fun project me and a close friend are working on!

Doodled some elves. The boy is from yesterday and I obviously didn't look at many refs for him, ahaha, but the girl was sketched out in 15 - 20 mins now tonight, using this as reference for her pose.

Decided to paint the elf girl and threw some colors on her last night - just preparing, so to speak. We'll see how long this takes me, haha.

Continuing with the elf girl. Haven't painted in ages so I'm extremely rusty.
