General tips on taking a better photo.

Okay, so, I can draw. What I can't seem to do is take a non blurry photo. Camera shake EVERY time. Even with a camera stand. I don't have a professional level DSLR, so, I'm hoping anyone here can help me out with some good tips on taking photos so I can upload some photos worthy of CA.org.

I would've posted this in the Photography Mob section, but I got an error saying "this account has been suspended", so, I'm not sure whats up with that..?

Also, I know there's probably some research about it a mere google search away, but I'd rather get it from the people here, who have good quality photos of their work uploaded.

1. Get good natural lighting.
2. Make sure it is in focus. If you are just taking a picture of your art, then autofocus should be adequate.
3. If you are on the manual setting, try making the shutter speed faster.
4. Try holding as still as possible when holding the camera. Breathe out slowly as you take the picture, and try to have your arm/body leaning on something steady if possible.

Fast shutter speed and the photographers stance should do it, that's the thing where they hold the camera with 2 hands 1 hand holding it from the bottom with there elbow against there chest and the other hand on the side.



Edit: Wait... Did you say you get camera shake while its on a tripod? In that case your camera is probably broken.

Yeah, that's kinda weird, assuming we're talking about photographing a static subject with plenty of light. Sometimes the camera will shake a little when you're pressing the button to take the photo, in which case you can try using the timer and see if that helps (or a remote but I'm assuming your camera doesn't have one).

Maybe you accidentally set the camera to a fixed shutter speed and it's very slow. That way even touching the shutter button with your finger could make it shake on the tripod.

If your camera will take a cable release, try using that in conjuction with the tripod.

Hey all, was unexpectedly busy for the past day and a half. Meant to come back and thank everyone for the info!

Apparently the thing I was using for a tripod, or "camera stand" as I called it isn't suppose to be for that. It's the "custom insert for a kodak easyshare dock".. I have no clue what that is, or where to get one.

I'm going to try all the suggestions out and see what happens. I have to look up what a cable release is, since I don't have access to a good DSLR. So, we'll see what happens!

get a scanner for $70-$120.

or just get outside during the day and take a photo while its lying on the floor/table/chair/... an overcast day would be perfect for that, or in the shade on a bright sunny day.
