It's great to see you pushing yourself with these drawings. Keep up the hard work.

Here's my two cents which maybe not everyone will agree with. I think studying from Bridgeman is great but it can be too advanced to look at for a beginner with little knowledge of anatomy. I would study from anatomy books along side with Bridgeman to understand why Bridgeman is drawing the figures the way he does and how he simplifies his anatomy. Draw the skeleton first. Draw the skeleton from different angles. Then do some figure drawings and try drawing the skeleton on top of it to figure out what is going on underneath. Then learn the main muscles masses such as the deltoid, pecs, back, legs, and arms. Learn how the muscles connect to the skeleton. Spend some time on these if you need to. It's hard and it will take time to understand it all. The human body is almost like a machine. Each bone connects to each other and each muscles is carefully attached to the bones so that we can move around. Andrew Loomis does a good job at breaking the human figure down in simple forms. You can find his books online for free if you google him. Right now your proportions are a bit off which I think you know. Also, sometimes when you draw faces they seem skewed or lopsided. A good way to check yourself is to look at the image in a mirror. You can sometimes see this clearer when you do this. If you're drawing in Photoshop, you can easily flip an image back and forth until you get it right.

It's good that you are drawing from imagination too. You learn what your weaknesses are when doing this.

your right when i just started drawing from bridgman's i drew with strong and confident lines but anatomically the figure was ALWAYS incorrect.....i couldnt have drawn the correct figure if my life depended on it!! im actually in the process of geting a few book the first im getting is on how to draw face and 2 more anatomy books are in que......ARTISTS READING LIST thread has a lot of good suggestions.

I really see that you push yourself to draw

i see that you try to construct all of your drawings but the proportions are wrong in most of them like said before look at bridgemann or loomis
and mayby this image wil help you a bit for proportions

Great stuff here man, I really like the linework and the effort you put into studies! You've got a sense of form, just keep correcting the proportions and everything will be fine!

You are pretty good with the charcoal. Even though it's such a messy medium your studies are controlled and not even a bit smudged. I kind of envy that.
I think it would be a good idea to draw your hand and face studies a little bigger though. Especially hands are rather complex, but they get a little easier when they are drawn bigger.

Hey again! Thanks Ive been good and how have you been? Seeing that you have been busy with drawing. Always fun to come back here.
Great work on both referenced and the ones from imagination. Thoose you call "fun ones" are really badass. I can see improvement from the last posts and I enjoy seeing how you push yourself.
Something I saw that Feng Zhu posted on his youtube channel and when reading Istmin52 post, I thought about this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st5wZ...AGFAA&index=67 around 4 min and 18 seconds in. He talks about how to use photos and train muscle and skeleton from photos.
The girl on the same page as the engine looks really good. Keep doing them and have fun.

Good stuff all round! What I suggest is that you apply those gesture techniques Hampton teaches you in a big mass of gestures. Try to do one hour of 60 second gestures a day and you will start to see tons of improvement.

Although the proportions of the figure studies are sometimes a bit off (mostly legs that are too short), they
give away a lot of expressionand motion, which I like very much

as kamikazel33t suggested i did 1 min gesture studies as much as i could before my pad finally ran out of sheet ....1 min gesture studies are quite tough but they are quite fun as well

Man, your studies looks so good! Especially heads and hear studies, your heads expressions looks very alive to me. I like Hampton inspired studies, very fluid gestures. One advise -women's breasts shading looks very off to me, but with practice I think you'll fix it. And pen's designs looks inexplicit to me, without purpose. Post on October 5th is my favorite, good work.

Are you actually taking a figure drawing class? That would be my main suggestion if you are not. A lot of people like the bridgman books because the sketches look cool, but copying bridgman can only get you so far. Taking a figure drawing class, and getting a Burne Hogarth book will be more usefull IMO. Simple because Hogarth gives you a strong method for creating the forms when a model is not available. And the figure drawing class allows you to look at a real model. Not a drawing of a model that someone else did. Looking at a real model gives you so much more visual information to store in your visual library. Usually you can find a cheap class at the local community college. Just a suggestion. Keep up that persistence man. Good Job.

akildee - no i cant take figure drawing classes due to 2 reasons..

1st - i have a full time job
2nd - i dont think India has figure drawing classes....or maybe not where i live

all my latest gestures studies and figure dawings are from photos of real models
i used to copy bridgman but no i dont anymore
and the only reason i copy hampton's gestures is to understand why does he makes those lines the way he does
all the 60 sec gestures i've done these past few days are all from photos of real models

first off, big thanks for the nice critique, I struggle with contrast and I didnt want to use curves or other adjustment modes photoshop has because I feel like I was cheating, but seeing how that turned out im deffo gonna see the difference and try to learn to do that from start.
I have been abit busy with my job and havent been able to draw as much as I wanted, (well if I could I would love to do it 24/7 and no sleep)
also, wow thats a huge load of nice posts. you have done a tremendous improvement and merry xmas!!
Uour gestures are starting to look really strong and Im impressed that u do that with charcoal.
One thing I notice with your faces (the one that are straight forward and not profile), dont forget to use a mirror now and then or scan/photo them and then reverse them in photoshop
Im also impressed of the great job you do consider that you already have a full time job.
Hope I made any sense ^^

Gotta go and prepare some xmas stuffs now but Ill be sure to check in to you more often after the holidays! Take care now!
