Buzz: Thanks, dude! I'm working on the painter piece these days. I'll try the stuff you pointed out! I think it'll help.

Van: Thanks for checking in on me! And yeah, the slump has passed! I just haven't updated here a lot.

I've bought a new gfx-card, and I'm running dual screen now, and MAN is it sweet!

anyways.... my sketchbook is forgotten at work, so no updates from that, but one of the oils I'm working on..

crits and comments are always welcome!

The image is a bit off on the colors, as usual... I can't seem to figure out what to do to get the colors correct... I even got my photographer buddy to take this picture... It's kinda blurred out to, 'cause I had to hold it at an angle, and obviously I couldn't hold it still Anyways... I'll get a proper one taken when I'm completely done with the image! Yeah... rant done now...

    hehe

First off a couple of sketches...Haven't really been sketching too much lately... I'm getting there now, though, and there will be more of these soon!

The contrasts are messed up in these...they were taken with a camera, rather than scanning. Turned out way too bright..

Here's an update on the oil piece I'm working on... Gotten a bit more substance in the piece, I think. Also I managed to photograph it a bit better this time.. hehe.

Just this one so far today.. Been working a bit on this one today. I've added a dropshaow from her arm onto her dress, at least started blocking it in. Also there are some differences in the background, I think the composition works better this way. Still a big WIP, though, so keep that in mind.

That being said; bring on the crits and comments! Any thoughts are welcome!

Yo! Just a couple of sketches today. I'm doing some speedies in painter these days, so they'll be up in a few.

    Some anatomy...eyes and a mouth...yeah..

And some outta my head stuff...every time I let my pencil do the work without me thinking too much about it, stuff like this comes out.

IMO the spiderlegs are totally messed up, but hey.

    d-Cept's non-daily sketchbook. Update 19/7

Here is some new stuff.. a few sketches and an update on the oil painting I'm doing.

As usual, I can't photograph this thing. I'll try to get a better picture taken, and update later. I see now that I probably took the picture with a slanting canvas as well.

No update on the oils, yet. I've ben mad busy. I've been painting some pictures on the walls of a club/bar/whatever, so I'll post the pictures from that place as soon as I get 'em developed.

Here are a couple of sketches/drawings I've made in between other stuff.
I'm kinda pleased with the SP with the gasmask.

As always, crits are more than welcome!

There will be some sketches coming soon, also. My scanner has been out of order a while.

    Nice work.
Maybe you can make the brightness of the light-sphere in the first one more intense, even add a glow around it.
Make the light/shadows even stronger, I think it would make the image better.

Good to see you updating again!

buzz: thanks for checking in on me! I'll definately take what you said into thought for the next layer on the light-guy!

Fut: Thanks man! It's always cool to get encouragement!

jetpack: thanks! I bought a book with rembrandt pictures recently, so I'm planning on making some studies from it.

Here are some sketches for a couple of pieces I'm going to do for a friend of mine. They're supposed to look real rough in the finished versions, so I've tried to keep it loose. There's a third coming soon in the same style.

Here's the update on the last sketches. Plus a third in the same style.
Also a small update on the digital piece with the girl. I've tried brightening the background a bit, I'm not sure that it looks good, though. Any thoughts on that would be welcome! Also I tried adding a couple of buildings in the foreground, underneath the ledge she's sitting on.

    On with the show:

What up man, looking good so far.. keep pushing. I did a quick paintover over of the immortal WIP. I'm not sure if you are going for the girl being a light emitting kind of ethereal feel or not, if you are then just ignore what I'm about to say. I think that it would help if there was a greater amount of difference between light and shadow on the girl. You've got it going on in the ledge she is sitting on but its not really happening on her. The pose is good, definitely captures her mood really well. The dress and her skin seem to have the same local value too, if you desaturate the pic, you'll see what I'm saying. Can't really crit the colors as I dont know jack about color. Hope this helps some.

Some_guy: Thanks for the paintover, man! I've been wanting to push the contrast, but I've been chickening out, I guess. I definatley see your point.

If you're chicken, a good way to experiment (in Photoshop) is to duplicate the layer, bump up the contrast on the new layer (or whatever you want to do to the image) and then paint in the layer-mask to bring back the layer underneath by painting with black.

    I'm baaack.

I've been inactive for too long now, but I've been busy with art-stuff, so I guess that makes it a bit more ok I've made some stuff for a music video. I've made three 1.5 by 3 metres banners that were to hang behind the band, based on the brown, monochrome sketches I've posted here. I'll post pictures of the finished works if/when I get permission from the director.

Here are some sketches that I've made between then and now

I'll start off with some gesture/croquis stuff I did on set for the music video. It was hard to get down the pose in the few moments the actress sat still.. Good practice!

    Some stuff outta my head:

Some perspective practice (wich I need a LOT more of)

    And one from ref:

buzz: thanks for the tip! I'll try it out ASAP.

I'll be checking in on ya this afternoon...

    thanks

Hey man, good to see you updating again. Hope you're allowed to take a picture of the banners.
Good work on the gestures and that last portrait from ref. The eyes are really alive in that last one.

    OK, switching to EVIL mode
This one has some issues but I'm sure you know.
As you also know I'm not the expert on human anatomy (at least not yet ) but his right arm is too straight and rather short/small. His head is also too big.
    [END of EVIL mode]

Maybe you can try to use more distinct lines, most of you drawings have very sketchy outlines, first create good lines and then try to shade them, it will make your drawings look cleaner I think.

    Good work.

Thanks for the heads up, buzzz! I know the guy with the sword has some serious issues I think the expression on his face was kinda cool, so I'll redraw him...maybe make a painting out of it. I'll try to update more often from now on.. I'm getting used to the workload I'm putting on myself now (day job which suck, but I gotta get some money, right? and I'm applying for art-related jobs wherever I find them, and wherever I think I have a shot in hell at getting 'em) and still I find time to sketch and paint for personal stuff/practice.. hehe. I'm looking forward to the day I can work solely with art. *stares dreamily into the future*.

keep going at it man...your work is improving steadily. keep up on your anatomy and porportions...your lineweight could use some work going from thick to thin but it comes with time. dont feel you have to rush a drawing...jetpack took his sweet time on his t dome piece and it was more amazing than anything of his i have ever seen. it was lightyears ahead of what he was doing before...just some things to keep in mind

Crunch: Thanks, man! I'll try to focus more on lineweight. Always cool to get constructive crits

Here is a page I did to loosen up my hand. It's an A2 page, so I had to take a photograph of it. Didn't get the whitebalance right, so it's very red, and it's damn blurry. Anyways...it's an update, right? Hehe.

    Small update/double post... ;)

    'Sup ya'll

I've posted this in the WIP-section as well, I've started painting it in oils, so I thought I'd post the sketch in here.
To be noted: I was very inspired by both coro and Marko when I started this.

The oils from this sketch (just started out, I'll be updating regularily) can be seen here: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=29930

I'll be uploading some sketchbook stuff tonight.

    See ya.

nice show of progression in the whole thread, you learn from piece to piece which is a good sign. i would recommend picking up few books on animation character creation as well as anatomy reference, the construction blocks of animation characters such as say Warner brothers subjects give a good sense of pose and proportion and muscle squash and stretch and would help you a great deal.

defcombeta: Thanks for the kind words and the tip. I'll check out some animation books in the very near future Hasn't really occured to me at all, but that is a great source for dynamic poses and such.

Now for the update. Just some random stuff I've been doodling...mainly on the bus to and from training.

Actually this first one is made where I work out. Just a couple of poses while I was watching another group go through a kata.

Kinda lost interest in this one. It turned out too flat. I think I might redo it some day.

Some sci-fi stuff outta my head.

I almost forgot! I found this old airbrush-painting lying around. It's not much, but I was so proud of it when I finished it, I thought I'd show it to you
Keep in mind it's probably like..5-6 years old... hehe.
