    Molina's Sketchbook - BR BR? HUAHUE

    Hi, my name is Lucas Molina. I'm a student from Brazil currently getting a master's degree in art history and painting a lot.

    My goal is to get really good at digital painting and I'll do this by focusing on the fundamentals, learning from the masters and drawing tons. I'm making this sketchbook to motivate myself and to get critique from you guys.

    Thanks!

    The preview image is a study of my beautiful girlfriend's eye. More art in the next posts!

    Great studies! Those landscapes are really coming along as well. I rather like the texture work.

    Lovely brushwork. To be honest, I don't know what advice I could give you, but for sure I know that I'd like to see some pencil work!

    Really beautiful work dude, i'm looking forward to seeing how this SB progresses.

    I really like the autumn snow scene with the white tree just off-centre. It's got lovely colours and great composition.

    I would love to see some sketches, and less finished pieces to see how you go about making these

    @Daniel Cotter:
    Thanks!

    @LastGen:
    I'll update some pencil work soon. Likely some recent life drawing.

    @clanlord:
    Thanks a lot.

    @Jacky-Boy:
    Thank you. Here you go, sort of. Though these are unfinished more due to lazyness than anything.

    Posting a couple paintings from imagination. The first one I just did randomly. The second one, well... My grandmother has gone insane this week. She was asking where her penguins were, because they had gotten out of the mirror and the poor things must've been eating sand by now. Well, here they are.

    I use a brushpack with lots of brushes from brushpacks around the web. You can download it here. There should be better ones around, though.

    One WIP from observation. This thread is quickly becoming NSFW, I'm sorry if you opened this at work.

    Oo you brushwork is so pro already ...! The use of colour an light have a very natural feel to it ... and those portraits totally nail it. You really know what you are doing and definitely will be getting a lot of attention in here. ^^

    I feel like I need at least half an hour just to find the right vocabulary to describe how well these pieces are made! The patterns are just... there see! I can't even describe it! The Colors are downright gorgeous. I feel like this comment just doesn't do them justice.

    With the limited time I have, I'll just sum it by saying: beautiful work man

    Hello, welcome to CA!

    Nice work here so far, you are definitely a painter, and a pretty good one too. You understand color, values and form well!

    I think your drawings are good but they could be much better. Maybe its just the photo but on the ones where you did add values, the range of values were slim and also very much the same. Also want to watch those line weights and making variations in your line weights. Variety adds dynamism. I have this problem myself so I notice it with others immediately.

    Also, another thing I noticed in your imaginative landscape, the perspective of that city/oasis in the distance is off. It dips in towards us and makes the city look slanted like its entire foundation is lying flat on the side of dune or something. It just doesn't look right. In your environments, you can also add more ideas (or assets) into them to add visual interest...unless you just want to make mood environments, that's fine.

    Alright man, all around you've got good work here. Keep em coming!
