Alright, not much of an exciting update but it helps lay the framework for the future. A self portrait and some studies, the SP looked much better in person.
Also HOORAY for page two...haha

Female nude is a Sargent study minus the head and half of the feet O.o. The heads are doodles/imagination.

My Mark. Almost everything was from imagination (COVER YOUR EYES NAO) except some aspects of the hands and a slight page of Bammes. A great fellow artist has really outsourced me to a different approach of learning. Thanks, you know who you are! Also the landscape is a wip.
Thanks Everyone!

Alright, I'm going to call this landscape finished. I went through alot of fit and unfit changes/experiments but it ended up to this result. This is the most self fulfilling piece I've done and that I can fully call my own =D.
Thanks for viewing guys, hope you like it.

Thanks for viewing.

Hey nice work so far, in terms of emphasis, I'll talk about this last one. You need to think about what you want your focal point to be, everything is sort of middle range-y. There aren't really areas of contrast or anything...pick a focal point and, if it were me I'd say the point where that rock formation comes out of the right side of the frame, the start of the curve. This is the point where you would put your contrast as it's where you want the viewers eye to go. Maybe put a bright sun or something peaking out from behind the rocks...anyway these things really do boil down to taste and what you want to do. Just some food for thought so...keep up the hard work!

Thank you so much for your two cents. I totally understand where you are going. You are definitely right with how the piece is right now and your idea is similar to what I was going to try to portray in the end. Thanks a lot, I will bottle your suggestions in my mind when I continue on the landscape.
Here are some studies, I am trying to get my head construction right!

Awesome sketchbook! I love the variety and your dedication to study. Nice work on that last referenced oil painting you did. Keep at it with those self portraits. I'm trying to do them everyday as well. Who would have thought drawing yourself would be one of the most challenging things you can do? lol That last one you did looks the most like you though. in my opinion. So that means you're improving! So keep at it.![]()
Your anatomy studies make me want to try harder, too.
twilightmoon777
Haha thanks alot twilight, yeah no kidding, self portraits are not easy at all.

NO way =D, thanks so much.
Here is what I have been up to lads, school started and its been difficult to find personal time to draw and paint.

like the thumbnails in the last update!
Great studies. Something to watch out for on the heads is that the eyes should be roughly halfway between the top and bottom. It is really easy to let the features take over and squish the top of the head.

Thank you Kevin.

Thank you so much, I will keep that in mind. I have plans to study through your blog once I get some free time this week =D.
Sorry guys for the petty updates, My classes have been eating all my time. Here is my first caricature, It is suppose to be Jim Carrey...haha. I never used illustrator before but let me tell you....It was the BOMB! Hope you guys like it, also I am going to color this new thumb.
Take Care everyone.

Alrighttt not much, don't judge me yet lol. Just one portrait of Oscar Wilde, I worked on it for quite some time, I'll take a better picture soon since the eyes are poorly misrepresented. I am a horrible photographer. Now its time to write my research paper -_-.

Thank you so much guys, it means alot.
Sorry for not updating frequently, here is what I have been up to. A bunch of these are reportage drawings, an hour oil still life, as well as some doodles/sketches. Also I used the previous portrait as an under painting for the digital painting. One is without texture. Hope everyone likes it. WIP of landscape included.

Thanks for your comment on my sketchbook! It's nice to see you keep pushing those studies, s'all good, keep 'em comingAs for the advice... Like I said on my sketchbook, I'm still only barely a beginner so I'm not the best person to ask :') But my way is to start with the paint pretty thin and just do washes, with more medium and less paint on the brush, and slowly build up the thickness as I go on... work thin-to-thick
the only time I use the paint really really thick is on the bright white highlights (if there are any), and it gives them a kinda impasto effects which is really gorgeous.
I hope that helps a little!
Looking good. Check your eye line proportion on the last profile. It looks like it just needs a bit more mass added to the top on the head.
even just the last page to this one there's been a huge jump in the quality and proportions of your faces and figures. the studying is paying off, and it will continue to. Construction/perspective are probably two of the most important things to focus on right now. But you already knew that haha. keep grindinnnn
good updates! for painting I strongly suggest you start out in black and white and learn to nail values. as Zorn said. if you've got the values right you can basically slap any colour onto it and it'll work.... that being said, you're tackling too many new dimensions at once. keep it simple. bumsk started out with b/w and then colour overlay (or w/e blending mode) layer on top of it for a long time before he got fluent with colour (may have been in those deleted first dousin pages).
JJessibelle
That definitely helps Jess, THANK YOU! This might of been noob of me, but I usually did not thin my oil down with medium, I used its full thickness, GAHH it all makes sense. I am a noob lol.
Mechanical Man
Yes, I just caught that as well Mech, thank you so much. I will have it all done soon. Thank you once again!
Jovian M
Thanks Jovian, your post really made me feel good, I am going to work harder and wiser =D
nim
Alright nim, I completely agree with you. I really am jumping to colors a bit too quickly. Thank you brother man.....also update your sketchbook, I know you have some goodies.
Thanks everyone once again, it really means a lot to me. So I recently got my power back due to the hurricane. The hurricane did not stop me from drawing though =D, I have over Twenty pages, I was too lazy to take all the pictures or even find any more pages that were lying around. So hopefully, I will be able to update more frequently again, as well as with any other studies that I have missed in this post. Hands are from life, figures and heads are all from imagination.
