    Kinhe's Sketchbook - The Beginning

Hi there, my name is Joaquim Barbosa!
This is my first post here in CA, but I was already a frequent reader of the forum, and now that i have turned the drawing more serious in my life I decided to bring my work here, to have some feedback and to learn with you guys.

So all the critics and advice's are welcome!

    Hope you enjoy my sketchbook!

Well, I didn't draw to much today, because my day at work was really hard. I made some life drawings of some people that I saw in the metro, but the drawings turned really bad so I will not show them.
This sketch below I made it an hour ago, it's a study for some characters that I have to do, so its possible that I will have soon the final drawings here.

the pen sketches are lovely! definitely keep that up
they're much stronger than your digital work though so I'd suggest to stick to black and white for bit until you get more of a fundamental down in terms of structure/form since I'm noticing that probably due to nervousness, your form gets really soft and rounder but you have to realize that there are many sharp edges there that are getting lost

    but keep up the studies

Some drawings that i'm making to illustrate a educational game about barbarian invasions. They are kinda of bad cause I' have to make a lots of them in a real short time. But it's fun to do!

So today I made some observation drawings, not to make some beautiful art work but to train my observation and learn some techniques, so i will just show a demo of my day.

Another happy day! I think i kinda lose too much time seeing videos from cool artists instead of drawing, i have to concentrate more.

For today i have some poorly sketches. I was trying to compare my digital lines with my traditional lines, making 45 sec drawings of body's with posemaniacs.com.
And the sketches of the faces i made in the breaks of my work

Something that I made last month for my portfolio. I had to make one robot hand in 3dmax to have some reference when painting.
Yeah I'm not uloading to much stuff... I will try to change that.

This are some painting studies that I made yesterday, I didn't take too much time on them, I wanted to be more spontaneous.

I decided to work more with grayscale and leave the color to another time. What do you think?

Your improvement is just staggering already! Drawing everyday is really really paying off! I'm attempting to do the same starting from now! You're getting the feel of colour and form beautifully, and your pencil lines are confident and lovely! keep it up (:

hey those last asaro heads are great !

you're right about the color, values are the first thing to master and will make color a lot easier.

    if u want some critic:

    do more studiiiies

your digitals painting are too clean (u use lasso tool ?) get messy !
if u want some cool brushes set use this one: http://hi.baidu.com/blur1977/blog it's the nearest to traditional painting, use paper texture to paint over

sometimes the top of your head aren't enough round (chopped heads)

USE THE ASARO HEAD in your next heads (no really draw it, then draw over it until you get confident about it)

    good luck

Thanks zou! You said some stuff that I needed to hear!
Yeah you touched in my wound, I use a bit of the lasso tool, not a bit kinda of a lot! x)
Yes probably I'm being to careful, I will get messy.

    And thanks again!

Lets make a summary of my last 3 days:
I have been filling a lots of paper with ellipses exercises, making cylinders, boxes and spheres and connecting them to make more organic forms. I've been practicing to think spatially by drawing wrapping lines in geometric forms.
I made lots of gesture drawings (and I start finally to see some progress).
Basically I've been improving my lines, I'm not going to upload these exercises cause it will take me lot of time to scan and I think it's not necessary right now, I could select the better ones but they aren't that interesting.

But I have some digital stuff! Only gray-scale works! I'm trying to get my values right, it's been kinda difficult but I will get there! Also I've been trying these new set of brushes (blur's good brush 5.1 pro) that Zou had recommended me in one post above, they are really great but I'm still need to get use to them! I'm still with some problems in blending, it looks all too much muddy.

About your post in my sb: I love the idea of trading images! Where do you usually get them from? I have a load of quite high res. digital photos I have taken myself, so I could send you one of those if you like?
