Child o' mine - Vumi's sketchbook that is.

Hello everyone! I'm Matthew (Mateusz to be exact) Delikat. I've been here for such a long time, and now I decided to post my sketchbook. I'll try to make it daily-one. It's not great, but will be... .

good to see you're drawing, but you're leaping ahead way too much i think

at this point you should be focusing on anatomy studies and construction, not shading and creative illustration. gotta learn to walk before you can run.

i'd recommend having a look at Loomis books about perspective and assembling your shapes from basic primitives, that'll really help you improve fast

You must be right about leaping ahead, but I'm doing this since 2002, when I started my fun with graphic design. I'm happy when I can doodle something out, and this creative illustration I'd call just doodling around in a train (it was mostly done just from boredom).
It's really hard for me to assemble shapes from basic primitives - I've already tried that (that not mean I'm done) from Loomis book like you've just said. I just can't get off that building everything with shades and complex shapes.
Thank you for your comment, because it made me somewhat in the mood of trying harder with those shapes. And if it's about perspective - I suck at it when it comes to living creatures - need to be improved.

    EDIT: Added some sketches

hi man! thanks for the nice comment in my sketchbook! great job on the studies!! studies will definately help you to improve your work from imagination, but dont feel like you have to only do studies. keep mixing it up! but Neonduck makes a good point, studies are very important, and should be your priority. but there useless, unless you keep pushing your imagination. so my advice is to just keep drawing! but have fun!

Your studies are coming along pretty good. Keep it up and keep practicing, you'll be there in no time! I suggest you look into websites like posemaniacs, just in case if you're running out of sources. Also it would also be good if you also conduct observational tonal studies and it will help you more in understanding form, regardless of what form it is. (:

Thank you Bleo for your comment. Thanks for the suggestion (I knew bout posemaniacs), but I've just bought a book for human anatomy and parts of body so for now I'll stick to that, Loomis and Bridgman.

Btw. What are tonal studies? Is it shading objects?

    Quick and small update#2.
My hair-drawing skills sucks. Need to work on that too.
This one is drawed from photo (so you could call it photostudy) with quite different technique than used in last post.
    Happy new year to everybody!

Urötskidoji: I'm kinda still having problems with proportions and maintaining these, but I'm gonna work on it ^^! Thank you!

This is the second try for the portrait. Acrylics on wooden board (didn't measure it yet :<)

I hope it's better than the previous one, but can't really show you my reference yet ^^. And I've fixed some things, but it's still wip. Gotta finish it today.
