This weeks topic is Convergent Evolution. Imagine you are to paint an illustration to accompany a science magazine article. Choose any example of convergent evolution, and paint the similar species, comparing and contrasting them. There may be text involved as well, but keep it minimal (no long paragraphs).

Eh, could someone please explain "rushed, WIP, or sketches"?

At my skill level, everything seems to turn out as lightyears away from what some people here call "quick sketches" or even "doodles"... Does that mean I can't try someday?

At my skill level, everything seems to turn out as lightyears away from what some people here call "quick sketches" or even "doodles"... Does that mean I can't try someday?

It is somewhat objective to be honest. Basically, don't submit something that you would not consider a finished piece of work, or that is rushed and not done to the best of your ability. In terms of sketchiness--I guess it comes down to individual examples. Some people paint very loose and it can be finished, while others will produce something that clearly can use more work.

It is not so much dependent upon skill level (although that does play a role), but is mostly a matter of how much effort you put into it. If you try hard and spend a number of hours on it, and it looks less finished than something a pro would do in half that time, there is a good chance I will still let it into the poll. It would have to be VERY rushed/incomplete to not let it in probably. I can't think of any examples in IOW yet that haven't been let in, and for Teen Challenge which I also run, I think I've basically let everything in to the poll. It is a rule that I suppose would be more enforced if there are becoming too many entries (CHOW used to get like 50-70 entries, then they needed to be picky, IOW gets only a handful so will let in more things).

Yay more scientific illustration!
Update with a wip on bioluminescence, I'll probably draw up another illustration about something else; there's so much to choose from on this topic, I'm surprised there aren't more entries!

Some great concepts here. I still need to work on mine a little. The whole thing took about 3hrs. It's a honey possum and a butterfly

I think this is almost it. Maybe just a little work on the flower, then it's ready to hand in. This was a lot of fun to paint.
