Wow, brilliant round so far! Particular favourites are VegasMike, PixelTuner, albino-Z and trevor, but there's a really high standard overall.

I decided to go for the Queen route, since lasses seems to be a bit under-represented. I'm sure Hell is fed-up of a male ruler by now

Not sure if I'll finish this up. Just felt the need to get stuck in.

really love albinos and gebs, just amazing stuff. this is my sketch I'm going to have to really push this one. I though I about everything being the opposite instead of a hot burning hell, thought about a frigged hell with cold blooded snake idk why but here's what I came up with and would like any comments or critiques.

well i dont know if it too much cliche or not but its the first time i do a devilish thing, so i might be falling on cliches traps hehehe
my king of hell is a wonderfull warrior who earned his right to rule in hell, and like all great evil liders, torturing is a simple pleasure , and this devil primary skill.
(he was not originally the king of hell, he just earn his right to be by defeatingthe previous king)

Reeeeealy liking some peoples interpretation of the king of hell. Filthy, dark, smell goodness.

I enjoy the topics that are almost entirely opinion based. The king could be a cross dressing Vietnamese prostitute named Bob, and if you did it right, it would be shit hot.

The king of hell works in mysterious ways.

I've always imagined hell in a different way than the traditional fire and brimstone. When I was young I really liked Obsidian, and thought it came from "hell" because it was sharp, black, and looked like it had peoples inside trying to get out. I think I may have huffed a bit too much glue in Ms. Lindstroms class.

Here's where I'm at. She's not the most demonic looking ruler hell has ever had, but she's definitely a treacherous bitch and that goes a long way.

Need to smooth out the background and do some touch-ups, hopefully I can finally finish one of these.

seeing all these great entries makes me want to give it a shot here's a rough comp sketch. will likely give it some armor to make it more royal... but moreso he's a conductor of chaos, so i don't want him necessarily to look sane or intelligent

My reaction to seeing this thread again at 6am in the morning:

One fucking hell of an psychological alarm if I may add.

Huge favourite of Vegasmike, GEB, Albino-Z, mithril golem and Hideyoshi's kings. Awesome designs!!

And honestly you can't even say how one is more kingly or less kingly or less hellish or more hellish then the other. Pixeltuner, you're giving valid design critique, but the definition of hell in itself isn't static, not even in the Judeo-Christian realm or Greco-Roman realm. Book of Revelation states that the "dark pit" is essentially the mouth of a creature (no fire or brimstone yet until the angels start throwing crap down). Hesiod says that Tartarus is "endless night" (Erebus) but Elyisum is a happy field for heroes. Vergil adds more to Hades' (also Hades-- you can't get more of a human-lookin' king then him) domain of "hell" with different levels, and then Dante comes in during the Renaissance and using the template of Vergil's Greco-Roman's "underworld" to create the 9 spheres of hell, varying from fire&brimstone to encased ice (the 9th level). For Judaism, hell/underworld is essentially one big "waiting room". And these are just the Western hells. Haven't even gone over to Ancient Middle Eastern or even Oriental Eastern.

And so the inhabitants (notable characters in other worlds, which can be described as the "master" or "king" arguably, of the domain) of each "hell" and "underworld" is different. According to Dante, Lucifer's just stuck in ice and he's more human in appearance then demonic (compared to the descriptions that come out from everywhere that John says in the Book of Revelation). In Elysium, some poets put Kronos as a ruler, and Kronos being a Titan, his design is modeled after the human image. So human designs are perfectly okay designs.

And yes, there is also the Ars Goetia and 72 demons, and ranked from Marquis to Prince, but that's another version of someone else's hell.

I don't mean to defend (okay partially, because I started with a more human design too) and argue, but this topic is really open-ended by its own definition. So no one's designs in this thread are particularly lacking because if you look in the books, there will be a hell perfect for them to rule.

Long rant but couldn't help it-- I was going to major in these studies and argue about this in real life.

Also my king. He can stand a chance. I think. *poker face*.

Mitze: ah you mean the ring around the eyedropper when hitting alt, right? Funny thing is, I only now realized it pops up. Dunno how I switched on that feature, might have been the installation of the magic picker recently. I turned it off again, since it was unintentional.

Started kind of late with these, did the pixels yesterday.
I had an idea of a political power struggle between the four houses of hell.
Each of them wants to take their place as the rightful king of hell.

Hekatoncheir: It's all in the name of constructive critiques and good spirits You can't run away from the fact that the 'christian hell' is the most widespread idea of an afterlife for sinners and that it's hard to communicate a bit more obscure hellview if you're designing a character for a game for instance intended for a big audience. This is not necessarily my point of view though, I advocate original design and interesting takes, I just made a point about things not necessarily communicating the right thing to me

I had my own ideas, but I didn't really find the time to draw anything this week, since my finals are coming and I just bought Diablo III.
