The Man with the Fancy Glasses

A character I've been developing gradually for the past year, between work.
Its slowly evolving into something I kind of like.

I hope to continue adding to the design and build a story around him as I progress.

This is the first one in the series

Further tweaks to the glasses and armor.Still retained the flowing coat, because I love drawing high contrast shadows.

The latest iteration. The armor is tweaked a lot.He needs a better belt I still feel. Will do a better design on the next one.More or less satisfied now with how the head looks.Drawing the damage was fun though..

These are all really awesome! Great color choices and compositions. Whatever this is for, I'd buy it!

Liking the idea and the paintings a whole lot.
But never explain why he wears those fancy galsses! - The mystery of them is the whole point I think.

Great thread, but I must confess I think his costume design devolved from the first ( and best) iteration. I loved the glasses in the first and the shape of the elbow pads was right, both of those things were a bit worse in the second attempt. The third piece ditched the shoulder and elbow pads altogether and made the glasses much smaller on his face. To me, the first design was perfect! I love how you handled the coat in both the first and second one.

Thank you so much for the critique. The glasses in the first iteration had a jaw piece as well(not sure thats visible) and I ditched that in favor of showing more of his face.It gave me more room for expression.

I'll try something better with the shoulder and elbow pads. They seemed a bit clumsy to me in their current design,so I dropped that in image 3.

The upper arm is 1/4 head longer than the lower arm. You have it backwards in the forth drawing, that's if he has an elbow at all. I do like your backlit lighting.

First off- great work! Digging the tech and the glasses. In the third pic it looks like the arm is positioned right except the hand is turned with the gun(imagine sticking your own arm out straight with a flashlight in hand and turning just your hand to the right. That's how I see it). Like as if he was aiming for one target and another popped up close by it.

He's actually just standing around and not taking aim.But point noted. It looked fine when I drew it.I think I screwed up on the lighting on the hand.

Really cool character. I can see how some would make an immediate connection with Blade, but this is certainly more updated and interesting and doesn't get diluted with vampire crap.

I really like your illustration style. Great textures and your tech design is awesome. It reminds me of Metal Gear stuff which I love. One minor crit is that the texture in his coat tails is a little confusing on a couple of the images. It looks like it's supposed to be some kind of cloth everywhere else, but it gets all beaded and lumpy at the coat tails. If this is deliberate, I might suggest taking it a step further.

That's all I've got (really just suggesting something for sake of it). I'd love to see more of this character and read his story

It is supposed to be cloth at the end as well.Others have pointed this out as well about the coat material being a bit vague at the moment.I'll address it the next time I use the coat. Thanks for crit. And there is definitely a metal gear/Yoji Shinkawa influence.I like the way he uses screws and bits of text on his tech designs.

Here is one more. Not a major leap forward in terms of the design at all.Just an excuse for me to paint cloth and forearms.

That looks really good. The Mystery Glasses Man does not only look good in silhouettes, but the design holds even in different clothing and different ways of drawing. Wery good job!
