I like the way you are exagerating your proportions, and I love that you aren't afraid to draw fat/weird people. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for posting on my sketchbook. I am really liking your studies. Is that last one from Robocop? It makes me want to do robocop studies. In your post you mentioned wanting confident line-work. The secret to confident line-work is 30 second gesture drawing and tons of it. I hope that helps.

I think understanding 3D (perspective, construction, planes) might be more important at first.

Pick a good book (tons of good recommendations on site) and read it carefully. Watching professionals draw in video tutorials can also be helpful. If you copy the plates make sure you have a good inner talk with yourself where you ask questions and give yourself answers "How does this work? Oh, I see. It's like this and it does that." Remember that it's not what stays on paper that matters but what stays in your mind!

Try to find what you studied in the book or videos in life and if you can't use life (you have your own body at least, right?) use reference from videos. Photos are no good to learn from. Analyse what you are looking at and drawing, understand: "Why does this lump happens here, what is it?" Dissect. When the focus is learning, draw to understand, not to produce pretty pictures. Don't see stuff as "values".

Then try to draw from imagination with your new knowledge. Compare with your referenced stuff. Find mistakes. What did you miss and why? What's so hard about the neck (or whatever) that you can't get it right?

Basically, it's the inner talk when drawing that does it. Asking questions, making guesses (as drawings), finding mistakes in your guesses and correcting them (draw again with improved understanding) and drawing from imagination a lot so you can actually draw and not just be a rendering machine.
