    Cow Dom Sinkevic's Sketchbook

Hello everyone! I was lurking the Internet being undetermined to post my studies. So after after a long journey through endless useless websites I come here. I'll be updating this thread weekly. I tended to procrastinate... but not anymore! I decided to put some pressure on myself and create this! Any help or feedback is more than appreciated! Enough of those words and here's my stuff. I hope you like it!

Cool start man, the studies are quite alright, work with values, practice with blacks and whites so you can see the difference between values, give it a try to that, and try working with perspective too, overall, your sketchbook is cool man, keep it up!

It was good meeting you today, Dominik (I hope I've spelt your name right!)

Studies are looking solid. I'd get some simple form/plane studies done to help your rendering from imagination. Keep it up!

Hey Dom! Took me a while, but i have some crits for ya. Main advice right now is to do some digital Still Lifes and Master Studies, I think you'll learn a lot from their use of tone and edges. Your use of colour is looking good though, the snow scene is looking nice.

That last study looks great, best piece of the thread so far! From what I can see here, I think your issue is you're using the same value range around the entire image. You either have a minimal value range or a broad value range, but either way you're flattening the image by making it too consistent in the painting. You want high contrast in the foreground and the focal points and let the background and unimportant elements fade a little. For example, in that first image of your last post, the guy looking at a futuristic city, the dark buildings in the distance are almost the same value as the foreground which is hurting your composition and sense of depth. And study up on composition as well btw as that seems to be another weak area for you. Keep up the good work!

Emil_: thanks man, started to do still life of my mouse!
flurry: thanks for the advice! I have done some stills, doing some master studies right now! Will post them next Thursday.
dierat: thank you for such a big crit, you helped me understand my weakest points in all my studies and paintings!

In all thank you for your critiques, that really motivates me to keep going.
Here's this weeks studies, some 30 sec poses, still life and other stuff.

woah nice landscape studies, good use of colour and nice edges especially on the trees in the second waterfall. Be careful not to use too much black in your shadows though, keep that warm versus cold in the mass lights and shadows. Also try not to search out every single detail in your work, it's better to suggest or even leave out certain details that detract from the overall impression.

Egbu- Thanks a lot! I will

First traditional drawing I post on the net? I think so. It's quite an old design sketch mixing Mayan King robes with German Medieval Armor

Good work Dom, I see you're painting lots of shiny things and there's possibly a danger when you paint non-reflective surfaces you might suffer with the values.
So more old master studies: John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, Velazquez. Avoid those 18th/early to mid 19th century brown school artists for now (Velazquez is an exception though because he generally didn't use brown for shadows, and was god like with edges and tones etc)
