So lets get this ball rolling, you know the drill.

I started this sketchbook on these principles:

1. Your life is ticking away. Do what you can now.
2. You will fail.
3. Keep fighting anyway. You'll get through it.

EDIT: This sketchbook is a constantly evolving process as I explore and experiment.

Good start. You seem to have a good eye for proportions and the line quality is looking good too. Perspective seems to be your weak point so you may want to focus a little more on that. Keep it up bro!

Hey thanks for the help. Perspective is something I really want to work on, its a knack I am trying to hit.

Oh yeah, and here is some more stuff. This is mostly older work, just to give a reference for my skill. Some of this is oldish.

Another update on the current oil painting below. I am having some trouble getting the skin tones right. I usually make very warm skin, and I wanted to try and show skin in a cool blue light.

Good start for a sketchbook. You should try painting from life in order to get a deeper understanding of colors =) It will also help you with your skin tones.

Yeah definitely. Working with the figure drawing class last year was a big help, though we only did warm light. I think with these winter days I might need to go outside to paint to get what I want.

Looking good so far but try some off you own figure drawing as well as your Andrew Loomis stuff. Also I have had George Bridgman recommended to me and that was useful. As for doing an exercise every single day is a great idea you have a lot more discipline than me keep up the good work.

By the way I know that one face on the left hand bottom is kinda wonky but thats because I was attempting to have a drunk expression and I also got some of the face stuff wrong.

Also I am not sure of people screen resolutions. Do these pictures need to be a bigger sampling size or is this good? Depending on what computer I am using these are either too small or they are just right. Let me know what you think.

that oil is looking awesome dude, really coming along. Your pencils are looking good, I don't know what hardness you are using at the moment but I would really recommend 2B.

If you are then thats great no need to listen to me :p I would suggest also varying your line width as much as possible if you can. Regions of higher contrast and edges which are sharper (or even closer) usually need more defined and darker lines. introducing more variation in linework really will add a whole new layer of depth. But im sure you know this already, just a reminder. Keep it up!

..some work are really good, but i think that youre no doinf too much prev-work for them (not sure ). try to sketch your ideas before start to painting them... so you can work in diferent options and details before doing the "hard part".

I am using 2B but I tend to make very boring lines, since I always expecting inking to take care of that. Thats not to excuse it, its something I really want to work on more. Thanks!

Prev-work? Like I am changing to much in the process? I think you are right on that actually, because that process has been slowing down the progress.

And then here is some more sketchbook stuff. I was at a figure drawing session, and instead of doing my usually contour sketches, I decided to apply loomis to it, and instead try to sketch the frame. Then later I went back over it and added muscles later. They were done fairly quick but I feel like I am getting a better hang for it.

So new image up. This is actually an experiment with no reference, so I know there are alot of problems with it. Basically, I was trying to see how working with a blue pencil was like. I like it, and I think I am going to to continue trying it out.

Good start man! I'm feelin the second figure down form the top of post #21, the lines are especially smooth and crisp on this one and it has a certain volume , and the perspective is good. My suggestion would be to just keep up with the excersises like your doing and work form life as much as possible, it really helps. Nice painting on that last one too. Keep it up!

A little Zelda Fetish Fuel for your after Thanksgiving coma



So I am working on starting a daily writing blog. Basically I am getting 365 prompts, and I will write everyday for a year. Its a good system if I can get enough prompts, and will force me to write everyday.

I was also thinking about starting a sketch blog. Basically Loomis is cool, but not a bunch of fun to work on. So I am still working on it but I was thinking of doing a 365 day fanart sketch blog. Fanart would cut out all the design and reference material hassle so I wouldn't have an excuse to skip my daily sketch, since it wouldn't take that long. What do you guys think? Sound like a solid plan?

Some Burn Notice work. I do think I will continue with this fanart blog thing, but I don't know if I will make it daily. I have a full 300 list now though, so I think I will just try and make a couple of sketches a week in that vein. Get out of these exercises and do some fun stuff. Anyway here ya go

I've been working on some more loomis. Get that stuff up tomorrow. Mostly just working on stuff with muscles etc. I believe I am getting better at anatomy. But I worry alot about this stuff. If I have the raw skill to do it. I mean, sure I know that anyone can do it, if they work hard enough. But people do have a starting point, a certain amount of talent that puts them where they are. And I know I have a talent for communication and teaching. So I am not worried about my finical future. I just worry that I will spend my life teaching others about the art I love, and never creating anything of worth myself. I guess I just have to keep going no matter what. I am looking at my educational options. If you want to offer some advice, check it out here:
